Hi. I am new to this forum, or any forum dealing with anxiety and depression. My depression began just a few weeks ago, probably resulting from the loss of my cat of 20 years, death of my brother, and post chemotherapy for various forms of Lymphoma. I began my old prescription from 2006, 0.5 mg. Lorazapam. This is only my second pill in two days and it seems to lift me out of a funky depression state after about 1 hour. My oncologist prescribed Lexapro, an SSRI, but I have been reluctant to take it after reviews of possible side affects. I am interested in reviewing your journey and efficacious treatments for various levels and forms of anxiety and depression. The goal is to help each other, regardless of age, race, gender, religion. or national origin.

NEW TO FORUM
Nice Wheels Welcome to this caring support forum. When I first struggled with Anxiety many years ago, I was put on a low dose of
Xanax but unfortunately left on it for years. When it no longer worked, I was
weaned off benzos and put on Lexapro. *nothing else
For me, my life has changed for the better. I feel alive again, motivated, not tired
and in control once more. Of course, we each react differently to medications
but for me this one was a winner.
I hope you find what works for you. I'd hate to see you pass up a med because of
anticipated fears. We don't know until we try it.
Good Luck...I'm happy you are with us xx
Thanks, Agora1 for replying so quickly. Not trying to show off, the Corvette was the only photo I could find at the time. I am glad you got off benzos because they could be addictive. I have never tried SSRI's.I agree, we all react differently. Did you experience any side affects like blurred vision? Not surprising that 30million Americans suffer, or have suffered from anxiety and depression sometimes in their lives.
When I was diagnosed with stage 4 hodgkin's lymphoma, I didn't get depressed. Probably too busy getting medical tests and infusions. Now that I am on maintenance monoclonal antibody infusions, depression becomes problematic. Thanks for the welcome.
Don
Actually Don, I have not experienced any troublesome side effects short ofdry mouth. What I like about Lexapro is that I am no longer sleepy all the time
as I was on benzos. I feel alive once more.
Do you think the infusions are causing the depression or the whole issue in having
to have that? Does your doctor think an SSRI will lessen the depression while on
this med?
I certainly hope you get some relief which can help with your coping skills.
My best to you Don. xx
P.S. No need to apologize for posting your beautiful red Corvette.
I've had 2 in my life. They are a dream car for sure
Agora1: Great observation. In the course of my research, the multiplicity of chemotherapy and monoclonal antibody infusions have many potential physical and perhaps psychological side affects that it is not out of the realm of possibility that a chemical imbalance is the procuring cause. In point of fact, I believe it is the common life events of recent loss rather than the chemotherapy. Regarding lexapro, it seems to have a less invasive side effect profile vis a vis other SSRI'S. My depression seems to exacerbate in the morning hours. I am in a wait and see mode. Hopefully time will heal. Let me and the community know how you are doing and feeling with regard to anxiety and depression. Best regards, don. Ps...
What vetts did you have?
Thanks so much.
Don
I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is so difficult. They are such wonderful company.
My condolences on the loss of your brother as well. You have been hard hit.
I lost my special sister and 6 months later I lost my dog 😢. I understand how you must be grieving.
Facing the health issues you have is another astronomical cause for anxiety and depression.
My journey has been quite complicated and long. I have PTSD in addition to anxiety and depression.
Im on medication, in two types of therapy, exercise hard and do yoga and meditation as well as self help reading.
Anything we put in our body has side effects. You know this better than I do as you have been through chemo. My thoughts are take what your Dr prescribes. The goal may be once the lexapro kicks in you will only take the Benzo as needed. Is that the plan?
Take the time to grieve. With the loss of your brother and your cat, as well as facing a major health issue, life has changed for you in so many ways.
Welcome to the group. Awesome car I would ask to take a spin in it but being a 🐬 I don't think I would fit
Stay strong and I wish you peace

Thanks, dolphin14 for your keen observations and spot on reply. If the benzos work I can forgo Lexipro. Thank God my complicated lymphoma case is under control. We all deserve happiness, even though I will be 67 on July 4th. Best regards, don.
We do all deserve happiness. 67 years young Here is an early cake for your birthday 🎂

Thanks so much. I heard lexapeo helps with both anxiety and depression. Hope I didn't accidentally hit some button that may have taken down your reply. My apologies if that happened.
That is the downside with pets. They usually outlive us. So sorry for your losses.Best regards,
Don
