Experience with zoloft? Help :)

hey everyone, i booked my 2nd appointment since 2 years, i definitely needed it as i have been getting into alot of pressure and my mental health has been taking a hit with new symptoms and annoyances.

My dr explained to me how he is seeing symptoms and indications of depression not just anxiety, but he was proud that my a xiety has improved and i was so much more different than 2 years ago, more confident, working at a job, excelling at university.

So he told me i can continue cbt but its a bit pricey, and he prescribed me zoloft at a starter for 50mg and up , dosing up within a few weeks or months to handle the ocd and anxiety and panic attacks that happen occasionally.

If anyone has any experience with zoloft (which im sure would be alot on this forum :)) can you kindly share some uplifting stories, my dr told me i shouldnt read the side effects because it will only discourage me for no apparent reason.

So if anyone can please tell me about their experiences that would be great.

Things like the benefits, the noticeable change, the time it took, anything you feel would help me feel more at ease.

Anxiety is not one of my problems. Yet l would be inclined to say try natural methods, manesium, selenium before going on any drug.I bave read Zoloft will make it hard to get motivated, especially in the morning, going to University do you need that.?

In my experience doctors love to push meds.

As to not reading about side effects, there is always the possibility you will experience some of them. These leafkets are not made up of lies. You may or may not experience any one or more of the side effects.

I really would say look into diet and minerals excercise and meditation more.

I would also suggest you read about the experiences of others. On this drug I worry your health will disimprove as you seemed to be in a pretty good place when you visited the doctor.

I feel at the very leas they are likely to zonk you out.t

Hi Kevin160, It sounds like you have made great progress and have been managing your symptoms well.

I expect your doctor knows what they are doing though, and so don't be worried about taking medication.

All antidepressants tend to make you feel rubbish for the first few days (maybe a bit low, vulnerable, slightly sick, or just tired). This will wear off after a few days though. After that you will likely feel the same as you do now for a couple of weeks before you start to see an improvement in your symptoms.

Some people find they work faster, some people slower.

Normally it takes between 2-4 weeks to see positive changes in your symptoms, with full effects taking between 6-8 weeks.

Keep in touch with your doctor. I'm sure they will review with you a few times during these weeks.

Medication can be amazingly helpful and completely take away or massively reduce anxiety and depression, so it's well worth giving it a go. It can take a while to find the best dose for you though.

If one doesn't work there are several others to try.

Let us know how you get on xx

Zoloft has worked for me generally, but had difficulty determing how much to take, and at first, what to expect. Some people on this list take 100, others 150, some 50. Docs have suggested combinations, also.

So this is an old post that got bumped, but I'm not sure I approve of any doctor telling patients not to read up on the side effects.

Read the good stories and the bad.
