Please get vaccinated or booster (trigger)

UPDATE:Negative! So just stress and winter travel! Still I feel much relief going into a nursing home without trepidation and guilt

Tip: order or get at home tests right away it was over 2 hours plus 150usd because they don’t take my insurance two rapid tests are 25 on cvs

I hope this convinces you… My mother is close to hospice so I flew out yesterday. Now I’m sitting in line at a COVID testing site because I have sniffles and a headache. Could be stress but I’m not risking infecting people in a nursing home. I’m boosted and have been masked even when not required

So many emotions… Angry and scared and sad because if I’m positive I likely will never see my mother again.

For gods sake take this seriously.

unfortunately it seems being vaccinated doesn’t stop us having covid, take care .

Oh goodness gracious. You people break my heart. Can’t you see??! It stops you from getting very Ill *if you get a breakthrough* and it is possible that it is less strong and therefore not as much of a threat. That is true with delta. So being careful I would be less likely to get it in the airport if most people were boosted!!! While it is too soon to know about omicron, with delta there are people that do *not* get it because they are boosted. Or if they do it is fought off really quickly. Don’t you see?? The more people that are vaccinated the *harder it is for the virus to survive. *Conversely* the more it is able to spread the more likely it will mutate and who knows what the next one is. That is why it is so frustrating that poorer countries are not getting the support they need. The more people that are *not vaccinated the more hospitals that are overwhelmed. Many places have already *suspended elective surgery which for some will become something that is not elective.

You people lol, I know all about covid having had several family members down with it who were all fully vaccinated, I said the vaccine would nt STOP you having covid. 👍. They have already suspended lots of surgery here in U.K. and non emergency appointments .

Down with it? You mean in the hospital? Or at home? How long since they were vaccinated? 6 months? I think it was avalan in the UK earlier. If so were they boosted? They are now finding none of them are as long lasting or as effective as moderna or Pfizer. A moderna booster is much more potent. Yes I do know all about it. You are missing details.

Arymretep profile image
Arymretep in reply to Blueruth

They were all fully vaccinated including the booster, one ended up in hospital very ill the others at home, thankfully they are all ok now. I think we all know about it now the amount of information available to everyone 24/7.

Unfortunately no given vaccination rates and protests. There is way too much misinformation. I’m sorry about your relatives. It is very rare with delta for vaccinated to need the hospital unless you are compromised in some way. Omicron is still TBD. I hope it is less strong but there are too many extenuating circumstances.

Arymretep profile image
Arymretep in reply to Blueruth

Thank you, they say the the Omicron is gentler but who knows, let’s just hope we will all get through this.

Blueruth profile image
Blueruth in reply to Arymretep

Yea, I think they are refraining from committing too soon. Plus hospitals are already overwhelmed so how much does that matter?

Arymretep, If you look at the breakthrough infections from Delta and Omicron in Israel, which is one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, it's a pretty grim reality check that we should have altered the vaccines sooner to deal with the variants of mutated protein spikes that are mostly being bypassed now by the current vaccine.

I had my booster a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon.

Here in the US, there’s over 800 thousand reasons to take it seriously and that doesn’t include the people who may suffer the rest of their lives with long covid. And the people who could suffer, like you, to protect their loved ones. That’s too many reasons for me.

fauxartist profile image
fauxartist in reply to Isinatra

I'm one of the 'Long Covid's Isinatra... my life will never be the same. And yes, I'm double vaxxed. I'm always breathless, always tired, every week I have another symptom of either fevers, migraines, terrible intestinal pain, and it goes on. I've had almost perfect health all my life, if I got a cold, it was maybe once every other year, no broken bones, I healed very quickly and could shake off pain. Now.... 'Long Covid' changed all that. If anyone thinks this disease is like a cold or no big deal... sadly, The Darwin Society always has another space for stupidity.

The saddest thing is...kids can't fight this long covid off ....most are left with it for life. Most kids are too young for a vaccine, even if there was one that worked for Delta 100%. If your an antivaxxer...that's your prerogative, but don't go out and give it to the defenseless kids that don't have a choice.

Unfortunately, I have long covid also. Going on two years. It has altered my life, as yours has, possibly forever. I do everything I can to prevent myself from being reinfected or giving it to another person. I don’t think my body can take another round,no matter how small. I’m vaxxed, boostered and masked up always. I see a future of a perpetually sick planet if we can’t do what is needed to do to heal it. And you are very aware of what is needed.

fauxartist in reply to Isinatra

The stats about the Long Covid in kids is scary..100% and they are saying its life altering for them, and with the Delta, breakthrough infections, long covid...it's at least 50% in adults. I think this thing alters us genetically... now I'm going out on a limb. but what do you think, I mean .... this thing is nuts... I don't have health anxiety...I don't like being sick all the time.... I used to love walking in the woods and on the beach, rooting around the garden and in the forest... Now I'm out of breath just choppin onions this morning.

Long COVID scares me the most. My hospital risk is low but long COVID seems unpredictable. There is still a possibility you can heal. I wouldn’t lose hope just yet.

Hi Ruth,

Reading your post brought a tear to my eye. Im saddened that you're experiencing this. My thoughts are with you and your mom. Last year starting February, I was helping to care for my aunt in hospice. She had a rare and large brain tumor. It was emotional turmoil and beyond a difficult time period in itself. Dealing with the pandemic brought it's own challenges and made things that much harder.

I pray that you havent come down with it and that you get the opportunity to spend some loving time with her. My thoughts are with you during this period of heartache.

So sorry to hear about your Aunt , such a difficult time caring for someone terminally ill , I was a long term career for my Mum with Alzheimers. I know how hard it is, without the covid on top of it. take care

Thanks love. May blessings upon blessings be upon you for being her sole support system during her battle with Alzheimers.

Have you had your first two injections and your booster yet. ? We are in the UK and the jabs are taken very serious I had MY booster about two months ago and the other, my Wife had hers four weeks ago, We had them done in a chemist shop, they had set up clinic in the store

So hopefully we have done what is important and from the beginning we have been very serious. Have you had your injections ???

Good luck and Merry Christmas and New Year

As soon as I was eligible for each one. Moderna too which has the most antibodies when you take the booster. I can still get and spread it. Omicron is very contagious. I’m amazed at how fast it has spread. I would be at home if I had a choice.

I'm getting my booster shot done tomorrow. Has anyone had any major side effects with the booster??? This is really serious.

Blueruth profile image
Blueruth in reply to

Not major enough to be alarmist but it hit me harder than most people I talk to. I was laid up on my couch which shivers and aches for about 12 hours. Couldn’t even binge watch. Basically feeling like I had the flu. Gone the next day. Seems like moderna is the roughest but that doesn’t mean you won’t need a day off with any of the others. That experience is far more preferable to actual COVID.

When I got my booster(Pfizer), I had a really sore arm for a few days, and that was all. Know many that were really tired the next day.

in reply to bethelbee

Same with me the day after I had my booster I felt tired and had a headache as well but it soon resolved!

I'm doing all right, thanks for asking! No major side effects to report. I go back to work tomorrow.

Booster (Pfizer) was a non-event for me. I had the J&J last spring and that took me down, hard, for a day. YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

There are no sure things, but this is a numbers war. We all do what we can to tilt the odds in our favor, and the favor of those around us.

I hope you get to see her.

I did thank you! She is actually much better and may even recover enough to go back to her old place.

I’m feeling much more confident that it is closer to a miserable few days at most *if you are vaccinated *. I still follow advice of being careful. I’m having coffee with friends today and we plan to be as close to outside as possible. In 28 f! 🥶 My friend has a mother in AL also. It is unfortunate tests are so hard to get. As long as you follow those types of guidelines experts are encouraging people to live their life.

Thank-you, Luna. 💗 In these trying times, we all need prayers. 🙏🏻

Arymretep profile image

Not always unfortunately, as I said my S/L was in hospital with it , yet my brother was at home not so bad, both were fully vaccinated and had their booster, thankfully both ok now 🙏

Blueruth profile image
Blueruth in reply to Arymretep

You do have to look at the big picture. There are going to be people who unfortunately fare worse. It is rare to not be able to pinpoint a reason. I’m sure it happens though

Blueruth profile image
Blueruth in reply to Arymretep

I think it is important to weigh how much longer to not live your life vs the risk. We have more tools now to mitigate the risk.

Arymretep profile image
Arymretep in reply to Blueruth

I suppose it’s quality of life not quantity

Blueruth profile image
Blueruth in reply to Arymretep

Yes, but we have the tools too. I hung out with friends, some of whom had higher risk concerns than I and we sat outside plus we were all vaccinated. Plus we wore masks when indoors. I think everyone felt safe and therefore I had no complaints about being cold. I was really 🥶 but I dealt with it for them. Then I had drinks with some other people who had masks. When they found out I was boosted they were fine with taking them off. In their case they know older folks like I do. It isn’t about them or I. That’s what it is right now. I can live with that. I can’t live with the isolation 2020 style. Not anymore. I follow the science so I know that being outside is the safest place and I know vaccination is the best defense. Everything else is no different than the risk you take crossing the street. My only frustration right now is the lack of tests. I would feel much better if I could test before I go home but that is unlikely.

Arymretep profile image
Arymretep in reply to Blueruth

You’re right the isolation is the worse part not being able to be with family and friends, and I’m afraid it’s looking as if we’re going in the same direction again here in the U.K., hopefully we won’t be in lock down again after Xmas 🙏
