Should I "get over it"

Lookingforhope20100 profile image

So my ESA dog I've had for years and sadly had to re-home to my ex-bestie was put to rest today at 11:30 and ever since hearing about it I've been sad and I just can't seem to shake off the feeling. I know I have to go to work and function but really all I want to do is crawl in bed and sleep until the bad feelings go away since I can't do that I figured talking about it would help. I just want the sad empty feeling to go away.

Awww-I'm so sorry about the loss of your beloved dog.☹ It takes a very long time to come to terms with the loss of a pet. I have had dogs all my life and it is never easy when they pass. Who told you to "Get over it"? That's not very compassionate at all. I wish you peace and healing.🙏

My family are the ones that told me to get over it they didn't really like the dog so they don't understand why I'm sad about her passing I just wish they could understand the connection I had to my dog

One of my dogs died in the summer and I still get sad when i think about it. Had him for over 10 years. Pets are family members too. So anybody who says get over it are just .. cruel . Sorry about your dog .

I'm sorry to hear about your dog.

Take your time with grieving as its hard to take losing a pet no matter what creature it is.

My dog died 10 years ago and I still can't bear to think of her death and still miss her. I loved her so much. Your family's statement is very unfeeling. All my sympathy to you. xx

Thanks for your support, my family doesn't understand why it's hard for my to loose her because they don't understand the connection a person has with an ESA pet she was a great dog and I'm sad to see her leave

Ugg.. I know your pain, you have lost a loved one and that’s so painful, I’m so sorry that you are going through this. Posting here is a safe supportive place, and you need to get your feelings out. Nothing wrong with a few days of curling up in bed. Maybe draw a picture and write about the pet you are missing? I pray for peace and healing.

Thanks I've only been on the site for not even a day and have gotten more support here then I have from my own family.

Yes, I understand that as well, I too feel way more support here than from my “friends”. Glad you are here, and that you feel heard💜

Awww so sorry we love our beloved companion animals and grief takes as long as it takes. Be kind to yourself. This will probably hurt off and on for longer than you think. I have some dogs that still grab my heart strings even though they've been gone for a while. You have support here
