ER visit

I’m at the ER and they tried to take my blood and one of my veins blew and now it’s hard and has a knot. Is this normal? I’m scared. They said it was but I don’t trust it

anonleo, this can happen at times and is usually not serious but must be addressedby the medical team in the ER. As bad as the name sounds, it should heal in a couple weeks.

Of course, blood cannot be drawn from that vein and another area needs to be found.

I've had that happen to me a couple times. It should heal nicely.

Sorry it got you upset. :) xx

The nurse who did it said it was normal but I’ve never had it happen before.

It may not be normal but it does happen. A little shake, the needle too large etccan cause the puncture to go through the other side of the vein causing a little

blood to leak out.

What did they do for it?

They held a cotton ball on it and now there’s one taped down on it

He said it was because I’m dehydrated so he gave me fluids in a different vein

Hydration is very important for the circulation of our blood.Try to breathe and just relax as the IV hydrates you.

(and yes it would be done in a different vein) :) xx

You will be okay. Breathe

I feel a bit better after a bag of fluids. And it’s not as purple anymore. Just waiting on my lab results.

Was yours like a knot?

I think that knot you are talking about is a hematoma.A little collection of blood under the tissue which will dissipate

by itself. :) xx
