No one talks of Isolating yourself

Isolating yourself is one of the symptoms of deep depression, but its one of the things rarely talked about.

We tend to push people away and wallow in our isolationist hell,we lack all energy to make any effort, and ultimately we end up more alone than ever because of it,and it makes everything worse.

I have become this person, locking myself away, seeing no one,and yet home is the only place i feel safe, but last night i did not sleep a wink,I tossed and turned waiting for daylight to come.

I used to be so gregarious ,but no more,i have lost my spark and my reason .

Last week, after great difficulty,i did manage to see a doctor,as i have quite a lot of pain since having a fall, and my mental health is off the scale, the doctor did examine me,but he said there was nothing wrong with me,so just get out and walk a bit.

I really do feel so unwell, but seems i must put up with it.

I'm sorry you feel like that. I isolate a lot too.

all sotrue- i do the same. i go nuts trying to think of ways to get out and do things , to force myself to be in the world... yet at the end of the day, the only time i bring myself to go out of the house is out of need for groceries or what not.

its a vicious cycle. we are so comfortable in the muck and mire and crap of depression and self isolation.

its the worst place we can be and an awful thing to do that to ourselves, yet.... the most comfortable and safe.

While we are responsible for our actions, depression can make it impossible to take those actions. We are not to blame for our inaction.

When I remember, I ho through my list of accomplishments for the day. I start with getting out of bed. Then getting dressed. Brushing teeth, washing, eating a piece of fruit, etc. Just surviving when our brains are telling us to give up every step of the way is a huge accomplishment!

List of accomplishments is a great idea to remember. .I easily focus on the negatives . .even remembering something funny and laughing can feel good

I know , the more we isolate, the less inclined wr are to encounter people.

Iwould like to suggest that you get a second opinion. Depression is treatable! There are many types of therapies at this point.

"Just get out and walk a little" is not taking depression seriously.

While depression may be incurable, you do not have to "just live with it". I know that it may seem impossible, but keep on looking for the right people to help you. You are worth it! So much more is possible. There are options but you can't see them right now.💚

You have been through a lot since you lost your loved one. Hopefully you might push through with medications/talk therapy for what seems like situational depression that can include the need to isolate, which can be temporary. It’s hard to recover all by yourself. ❤️🏄‍♀️

It puzzles me that the doctor says get out and walk if you are in pain. Despite examining you, surely only you know your level of pain, it just bamboozles me!

Thank you,it puzzles me too....i honestly think some doctors have little interest in you,and more so if you are struggling with mental health too.?

I would be incined to agree. They dont even want to know your story, you're dismissed.

I isolate myself because I find people “difficult” - not that they Are difficult, but my mind sees them that way. Then I’ll moan to myself about how I am friendless, nobody cares…. etc. I stupidly avoid people then start blaming them because I don’t make the effort to speak with them!

You say you feel “so unwell” - do you mean physically or mentally? Is it something painkillers (or whatever) would help with, or is it emotionally you need help/support? Maybe write down what’s happening, what you’re feeling is ‘wrong’, and give this to your GP to read, and ask for their help….?
