Anemia

I have had one iron infusion and am due for a second infusion this week. My doctor explained that he still needs to determine the cause of my anemia. He suggested I have a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy to rule out any bleeding. I had both tests performed October 2020 and nothing was found. My GI suggested a procedure where a small capsule containing a camera is swallowed and as it passes through your body it makes a record. Has anyone had this procedure? My anxiety level is through the roof and I am feeling physically sick because of my severe anemia and I need to find a solution quickly. Any and all comments appreciated!

Anaemia can be a sign of auto-immune disease. Have they done an auto-immune screen to include ANA and coeliacs test?Is your diet adequate.

How low is your ferritin if you are having repeated infusions?

And have you been referred to a haematologist?

You've posted on another site about blood transfusion, but you are now saying iron infusion. Which one is it that you are having?

Hello and thank you for your comment. I'm receiving iron infusions ordered by my hematologist. The blood transfusion was suggested by my primary doctor because my hemoglobin was and is still very low. After my last iron infusion I will again consult with my hematologist.

Hi kitty7, My daughter has had both Iron transfusion as well as Potassium IV due to her

Eating disorder. She has gone through the Endoscopy and Colonoscopy due to her labs

sometimes showing anemia. She also had the small camera capsule swallow to record any

issues. Everything was okay. As for the capsule, you will be okay kitty. It does it's thing

and then passes normally.

I wish you well with any upcoming tests and hope they find the cause of your anemia

and address it. Keep us updated please. :) xx

Thanks very much for your comments they are very helpful to me. I will need to consult with my hematologist after my last iron transfusion to see where my iron levels are at. How is your daughter? Did the doctors find the source of her anemia?
