What should I do?

I’ve been off work for some time now and the lady in the office sent me some info for counselling. I have been referred to the crisis team by my GP.. should I let the lady in the office know this?

Hey Lion47. Not sure if you should say something, but it does seem like talking to a counselor may help your current situation.

No. If they recommend it you can apply for FMLA which protects you from medical discrimination. You can get it for use as you need it too. It allows you to take unpaid leave and they are not allowed to ask. They have a dr note. You should never discuss mental health with anyone on the job.

Just another opinion, don’t know if I’m right or wrong here, having trouble with decision making... from stress. So just another take on your situation. What about telling the office lady what youve told us , about the the crisis team ...as long as you know your rights as an employee first ... there is absolutely no shame in having this condition and should be treated like any other serious illness. Perhaps you could chat to her about how much sick leave you might need off and what will work for your boss ( if she is your boss, otherwise go to your boss directly) . At the end of the day they are running a business and you are probably a very valued employee and don t want to lose you either , so time frames etc could be important to them as far us running their business goes . Perhaps go to workers rights organisation to find out exactly where you stand on this so you are well informed .... also mental illness is still an illness, you don’t need to go into personal stuff if you don’t want to , you could have a medical certificate written that your job HAS to recognise , without the personal stuff in it , for all they know it could be a totally different disease, not their business. Where I live you can get a medical certificate for up to 3 months for depression and anxiety . In the end do what you think will work for YOU , put yourself first , only you know what you need and what will help , don’t be afraid, your intelligent!!! Listen to yourself and BELIEVE in yourself, I believe you know what you need right now and what will help you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
