A few days ago my family and I adopted a cat, my family is not characterized by having pets because my aunt does not like animals, this time I accept because she said that the cat was going to scare the mice, I love the kitten, the truth is so cute, my uncles treat her like a pet or something like that but I treat her like a member of the family, I don't know if what I'm saying is correct. It is sad that my family does not accept my love for a kitten, that when I am present they speak that the cat is only to hunt mice and nothing else, they even want me to stop feeding it because they say that the cat leaves to become lazy I do not know what to do, please help.

Hi. What would your family do to you if you keep feeding the cat?
Well, they would get mad at me, sometimes they didn't understand me or didn't even know about my problems and that kitten has only brought happiness to my life.
I’m sorry to hear that. However, if you love your kitten so much you will have to feed and take care of him well or else you have to give him away to your friend maybe or to shelter. I have a cat too and I noticed she never ate anything but her food. She played with a couple of lizards to death but that’s all.
Just like that, some cats are experts in hunting but they are bigger, but my kitten is not, he is only 3 months old and my uncles want me to do something that he cannot do yet and very apart is that when we gave him chicken or meat, they wanted me to give it to them uncooked or even sometimes with the bone included.
Omgggg that is not right. Do you have a close friend next door maybe you both can keep him there, feed him and you can come play with him any time? 😻😻😻
kittens especially !!!!! they have not become expert hunters until they get older - and proper nutrition is very important for a young kitten!!!
please try to explain this to them!
even when the kitten get's older - it's NOT likely there will be enough mice to nourish the cat !!! it will need supplemental food - unless you have a serious mouse infestation....
Yes, I know, now the kitten is hungry, when everyone goes to sleep I will feed him, that is what my uncles do not understand, that the kitten needs his food and is too small to hunt.
if they don't get attention - they don't bond to humans - and without that bond - it's very hard to care for them properly... and - without that bond - they will fear humans - and if they're always running to get away from the humans - they can't hunt!!!!
You are very right 13ga, at first I did not think that I would like a kitten, but seeing her so innocent and tender made me smile again, that kitten helped me to believe in life, that they needed me here, that I have to be stronger, that despite the difficulties we can smile again.
this is what pets do!!! this is why people have pets!!!!
they give us reason to live - when the people around us don't understand us - when we feel alone and isolated....
pet's give us love and hope - and they depend on us as much as we need them !!!! they're our responsibility.
.
please take greatmindfulness suggestion - if you can't convince your uncles - find someone nearby to house and feed the kitten, and you can share it with them!
I understand, I will do my best to have my kitten very close, the problem is that if I buy their food or prepare it myself, they will take it as rude, my uncles are still like my parents, but that gives them a certain right about my feelings, right? now the kitten is playing and I am going to go feed him, thank you all for your great advice, I will keep you posted.
I agree. Sorry, but the poor kitten shouldn't have to live in such barbaric conditions with the uncles. I'm an avid animal lover, and this post makes me very angry!
ANYONE that has pets will tell you - they ARE members of the family....
Cherry - I will tell you - i love my pets MORE than ANY human member of my family!!!!
admittedly - this is not a high bar because i don't like my family very much at the moment... but even when they were in higher regard - almost all took 2nd place to my animals !!!
i've had dogs and cats growing up; and i've had cats my entire working adult life - worked too much to have a dog....
.
pets are not only members of the family - they are very important companions!!! they can be better friends than alot of people can be!!!
.
cherry - i'm so worried about your kitten.... you need to convince them - it needs to be cared for !!! if you want the best mouser - that kitten NEEDS to be healthy and fed properly !!!
Hi Cherry. The way people treat animals says a lot about the way they treat people. Animals are spirits and have souls just as we do. As pets they ask for so little and give so much. They love unconditionally. You can tell them anything. They don’t judge or criticize. You’ve seen those bumper stickers that have a paw print and ask “Who Rescued Who?” Exactly. I never say anymore that I “own” cats. I don’t regard them as pieces of furniture. I now say that I’ve shared my life with cats for 30 years. I haven’t “owned” them. I adore all animals but in my case I am particularly crazy about cats. You might say they amaze me. I’ve written all of this without addressing you and your situation. Sorry about that...I just get carried away when talking about animals. As for you, Cherry, don’t let anyone stop you from loving and taking care of that kitty! No one can stop you from loving her/him anyway. I honestly feel sorry for those in your family that just think of the cat as only being useful for keeping rodents away....that they think of the cat as a “thing” rather than the sentient being it is. Some of them may eventually come around. But this feline has already found its way into your heart. That says a lot about you. I could go on but I will leave you with three words in response to your post. LOVE THAT CAT!
