Cultures and Depression

According to my theory the main cause for Depression in US is because of certain cultures ppl like to embrase but in India its mainly because of High Population, bad childhood and Bad quality of life.

In US the depression rate is comparitively high which in my sense is due to lonely life, Lack of love and affection from parents after certain age, Lack of space for familiy time, No proper transfer of responsibility, Not disciplining during childhood, Parents divorce and Most likely parents choise to move on with new partners if marriage fails whereas, Depression in India is mainly because lack of vision by political bodies towards thier citizens, Lack of empathy within the society and families, Childhoods in boarding schools, Excessive compitation in every sector due to overwhelming population, Too many dependents in the family on the individual earning, Responsibility to keep the loved ones happy and safe all the time, Rapid change in life styles, Commitment to improve the quality of life (being in a develoing country) and offcourse rate of increase in divorce. But fortunately Indian's have solution to some of them like, lndians love to stay with parents under the same roof even after becoming financially independent which creates a support chain for each other and Most importantly many parents would choose to live single for rest of their life if the marriage fails/divorced mainly to keep their childrens happy, in the process parents likes to sacifice their personal life to enjoy watching thier childrens grow instead of pushing them to accept and live with stepdad/mother unlike a US cluture. It's hard to believe but it's true in many families.

However, Irrespective of the regions we live the cultures we adopt, people we live with, life we choose, Inequal creation by gods are the main reason for depression/mental illness.

Sadly modern world has solution for most of the physical problems but very few for mental illness which proves human science can never understand mind fully.

Enlighten me if the facts stated above are wrong and please know that I'm happy to correct my facts...

I think our modern lifestyle contributes to depression. We don't have enough time to connect with nature and each other which contributes to our unhappiness. We take away our purpose by making machines do everything for us. I think we need to manage to achieve balance in this life and remember that we are all connected. Love is really the key.

I Totally agree with you. More the invention we do more the health issue we invite. Machines ease our life but reduce our existence. What a beautiful cycle by nature right?😀

Your account brings two memories to mind. One was about an account a doctor once told in a gathering. He use to travel by car to a remote village in Mexico during his summers to provide medical care on a yearly basis. He observed when he first visited this village that the parents had many children but they lost most of them through disease.

Over the years as he improved the village’s health & the parent’s many children survived. He then observed that the parents became depressed. One would think that it would be the opposite.

He stopped going when he heard that a neighboring village was planning to steal him to improve the health of their village.

The second account I read in a book on very early ranchers in California (The author took these accounts from a U.C. Berkeley library). These ranchers owned enormous acreages for their cattle. Their chief complaints were uniformly population growth & taxes!

My own U.S. mother tallied up the outrageous number of wars that our country was involved in during her life span. I personally think wars are a driving force behind much depression too. Look at the suicide rate of U.S. Veterans, these are parent’s children.
