Do the hands get cold because of anxiety? I think it is the anxiety since they gets a bit less cold after taking some Klonopin.

When you have a panic attack your heart to beats faster. This triggers blood to be pumped through out your body at a faster rate. If you continue the attack for a prolonged amount of time, your body may not be able to send oxygenated blood sufficiently to your whole body. So it protects the important things in your body like your organs and brain. That is why other parts of your body can go numb and get cold. Your arms and legs are usually the first. So in other words, this is a completely natural response for your body to do during a panic attack. Having said that make sure that if it is a regular occurrence or lasts an irregular amount of time you should consult your doctor.

Thanks for the reply. That is very good information to know. The rest of the body is warm though and my face can even be sweating, but my hands are cold.

Anxiety has all sorts of tricks. Many people have different types of symptoms. Hands going cold would be a blood vessel thing and could be anxiety. For the hands to go cold, Your blood vessels constrict letting less blood flow go to your hands. There is something called Raynauds disease. I would check that out and just see if you have any of the symptoms. Klonopin can cause blood vessels to dilate so it makes sense that your hands warm up after taking it. Either way, nothing to worry about in this moment. Worrying about it will literally not change a thing. I get cold hands off and on and will have to go warm them up under hot water. I don’t have Raynauds... I do have anxiety but it’s not from that either. It’s just a thing that happens now and then and that’s okay.

Thank you. I read a little into Raynaud's disease after seeing you mentioned it. From what I read so far, I believe my cold hands are more likely purely from anxiety and not from Raynauds disease. My hands do not change color and there are not prickly or numb feeling. Also no sore around the fingers. Yes, anxiety is like a devil playing tricks.

Good! Now you know that it’s just anxiety, and is something that happens when your body is over-sensitized. Nothing to worry about. One day when your body isn’t over-sensitized, it will go away.

Thank you for bringing up the phrase "over-sensitived". Yes, that is what I read and anxiety but I keep forgetting. One advice from books is try to de-sensitize. I just have to remember this trick and practice.

Thank you Agora1. Anxiety is like a possession. Sometimes just feel like not in control of the thought process. I have it for a long time and thought I would join a forum so that maybe we can all help each other.
