Vaccine worries causing anxiety

I haven’t been on in a while due to finding ways to cope with my anxiety and all has been really well until recently. I’ve been having severe anxiety these last few days over whether taking the Covid vaccine is the best thing to do. I was against taking it at first but seeing so many people having serious illness from Covid has really pushed me more into wanting to get vaccinated. Although the adverse side effects of the vaccine have been very low, I’m still extremely worried. Has anyone else been having these same feelings of anxiety? Any advice on how to reduce the fear?

I was scared to do the vaccine because of my genetic syndrome and asthma but I did it anyways the symptoms weren’t severe thankfully but I had peace knowing that I was protecting me and others from getting COVID since I am high risk

If you don’t mind me asking, what genetic syndrome do you have (totally okay if you don’t want to share) and did you have any side effects?

I have Williams syndrome . I did have side effects such as sore arm sometimes would get hot flashes tiredness

I would say that your chances of becoming ill or severely ill are far far greater not getting the shot. There are many long-term effects of covid-19 that you do not want to have and this Delta variant is getting way more serious. You're black and I don't know why but this virus seems to hit black and brown eyed people a lot harder which is unfortunate. If you have no health concerns like a bad heart and your doctor says it's okay I would say please please get the shot for yourself and your community.

I also want to add that four people in my family and none of us had any symptoms after getting the shot except a sore arm for a few days.My sister on the other hand who lives in a small town across the state won't get one for political reasons.

I was so against getting it initially due to it seeming rushed & also hearing about serious side effects but seeing news about this Delta variant has really shaken me. I’ve always been concerned about Covid but this new level of concern has really caused me to want to get it for sure. Hearts healthy and I am overall healthy. I have an autoimmune disease but it’s very well controlled and not very active so that’s the one thing that kind of worries me. You’re right though this virus has been hitting people of color extremely hard

Please go get the shot you will feel so much better and so much more empowered afterwards. I felt so great after getting my shot knowing how well protected I was.I live in a small redneck town my elderly mother is really an advocate of black people's rights. It would make her so proud of her son for her to know that I helped sway a black person to get the vaccination. I know that's weird but it's true.

I also am in two minds if to get the vaccine. I’ve heard about the vaccine not being tested for long enough and it can effect other things. And it doesn’t stop the spread of covid or you catching it it just makes the symptoms of COVID less for yourself if you catch it.

So yeah I not had mine yet but that’s not to say I won’t I just not sure

I totally understand you and that’s the stance I have on it as well. So many people I know have gotten it and have been fine so that gives me some hope. I was thinking the same as you about still being able to catch and spread it but if it can prevent death, it’s something I’m starting to see is worth taking because with these new variants, we just don’t know how the outcome could be. I’ve been blessed and fortunate to still be here so God is forever good in that aspect.

If you don't get it you can become like Typhoid Mary; who was Asymtomatic for Typhoid, but infected many people around her.

Likewise you can be Asymptomatic for Covid, but still spread it.

And so can people who have had the vaccine

Less likely though, I am a retired nurse, and I have had mine. with minor ill effects.

A vaccine works by making it increasingly difficult for the virus to spread. Does that make sense?

So rna has been researched and tested for years. They just needed to adapt it for COVID-19 and do trials. What was speedy was getting it through the approval system. Warp speed simply sped up the administration. Any med is subject to testing long after it has been approved. We are not in clinical trials. Plus the numbers that have even gone into the hospital are statistically 0 out of millions. There have been no long term side effects like you get with COVID-19. There are people that have had to have lung transplants because of Covid-19. They expect more. Is that worth the risk?

Get the vaccine. You will be much safer and I think you will find that your anxiety diminishes. The side effects for me were similar to a flu vaccine - a slightly sore arm and a little more tired for a day. This is nothing compared to getting covid, or worse still, long covid.

That is really good to here! Thank you for your input

despowell I can tell you that, when I took the vaccine, I had very few symptoms, other than a sore arm and low-grade fever (just a little mild body ache). Once I took some Ibuprofen, I felt fine. Even if you do get side effects, just remember, it's better to have those side effects than to be on a ventilator. Please get the vaccine-for yourself and for those around you! Not to mention, you will be freer to do things you enjoy without having to worry about catching Covid! I would say take some deep breaths and remember that the side effects, IF they occur, will be temporary and short-lived. I'm glad to hear you're wanting to get vaccinated.

Hi there,

Did you have the childhood vaccines in order that you could go to school?

There is no difference than having a Flu shot. You might get flu type symptoms for a few days, but probably will clear up after that, and a couple weeks after the second jab you will be you will be fully protected.

Please don't get caught up in the conspiracy theories going around. I'm 73, I have had both doses and am now fully protected.

Cheers, Midori

Did you have any type of side effects?

Yes. I had fear and anxiety before taking the vaccine. I had fear because people told me you can die from taking it. They told me they were putting bleach in it.

Well I don’t believe the bleach thing lol I’m sure that was just a fear mongering thing. Did you end up taking it?

Yup

Yeah the bleach was a far out fetched up thing. Goofy man.

Midori profile image
Midori in reply to Yuuupsongbook002

That is a conspiracy theory, and totally untrue. Bleach is dangerous and was something a politician recommended.

It is a total fallacy.

Please get the vaccine. There might be a few side effects for a couple of days, but it's far better to put up with that than have to suffer the effects of a strong dose of Covid.

Speak to your doctor as none of us know your medical history or needs. Also, they will be the best informed and the most equipped to handle all of your questions and concerns. I want to remind you that anxiety after a normal vaccine is normal so it makes sense that you are nervous now. But again, any concerns or questions you may have should go directly to your doctor. You can read all you want online but that will only confirm what you want to believe at the end of the day. If you want the truth they are required by law to give you and honest medical opinion. So speak with them and only them.

I've had the mixed feelings of the covid shot but with me dealing with people on the nitrition side of the health department. We are considered essential and still had to work. We still dealt with people in public.i signed up for the shot and to the day of my appt I wasn't for sure if I wanted get it. I got mine when it first came out. I thot I may as well get it over with. I haven't looked back since some of the clients had gotten covid. Not an easy decision bit glad I did it.
