Biting my hands when I get an anxiety attack

During school hours I would experience anxiety attacks, it would get to a point where it happens everyday and it’s distracting me from my lessons

I’ll be too fixed on how to make it go away

Over the years I’d find myself biting my hands till they bled just to distract myself from thinking about it, until this day I still do it and somehow I found comfort doing so, although I know it’s not the best thing to do

Jasmine, how about snapping a rubber band around your wrist to bring you back in the moment as well as deep breathing which will calm the adrenaline flow. Just a thought. xx

I like that. Or take a pen and keep clicking it, or take the lid on and off the pen. Or a fidget spinner, something you can have in your hands to play with.

That’s also a good idea

I have a compulsion to do the same thing. I use lotion, sugar scrub, or something to fidget with.

Good advice there Jasmine. I was just wondering how old you are as it would make it easier in giving you good counsel. x

It’s not supposed to be advice at all because I know it’s bad, and I’m only 16

Ok I guess you just want to vent and not get advice. That's fine. x

Hi Jasmine_1921 glad you shared that information with us. I actually pick my scalp till it bleeds. My fiancé got me a stress ball and it’s been helping. Also I’ve been putting A&D on it at night because when I see it’s healing, I don’t want to ruin it again. Maybe put those lotion filled gloves on. For now, put some lotion on them. Hugs 🤗

Aww thank you so much for your advice, I’m glad you stopped and it’s all better now

Is there someone or something specific at school that causes you to feel anxious Jasmine?

See that’s the thing not really, I don’t get bullied and I’ve been in the same school since 1st grade

I’m still trying to figure out why I have these anxiety attack during school hours

Do you feel very self conscious at school Jasmine? I mean as if you are being watched and judged all the time, nervous about speaking in class? About what other people might think of you?

I do feel self conscious and as if I’m being watched and somehow uncomfortable

Maybe im wrong, but it sounds to me like there is something you feel ashamed about Jasmine. Now just to be clear, the feeling of shame is not as a result of something that you do yourself. Shame is a feeling we are left with when someone else does something to us, or they create a situation in which we feel very uncomfortable and we learn to blame ourselves for that situation. So basically because we think we are to blame for what that other person did, they we feel that we have to keep it secret. And as a result, we can experience a lot of anxiety and sadness, because we have hidden this aspect of our experience from the rest of the world because we are afraid of being judged and rejected.

I don’t really feel comfortable taking medication at a young age, especially if they are strong
