Feeling Depressed family not supporting my choices

i am independent and working in a metropolitan city. My father and grandmother want me to come back to my home town and they make me feel worthless with my current job. I am really depressed listening to all this again and again. When i say i am happy they say everyone is happy at home only and the ones who say thy are happy outside just lie.

I feel really bad and feel like dying.

I know i am depressed but if i say anything like this at home they will not support me.

Hi Zenia, We cannot choose our family but we can choose how to think about them or their behavior towards you. I would believe they are either jealous of your success or wallowing in their own issues and have a degree of envy that you have left their town. My therapist made a great suggestion to acknowledge your thoughts as just that and learn that these soon will pass. It's like a wave that builds up and then breaks onto the firm sand of the beach.

Thank you for your support. i really needed that.Due to Covid i am at home and i feel horrible i really need to get back. they have finished my self esteem. They say i should leave my job and find one near home but i am happy where i am.

i am generally a very satisfied person and with the money i get i am happy. they keep on pressurising me.

We dont have a say at home. i had an argument with my father and said a few things and i got to hear that my grandmother said "when i talk about marriage then also she behaves like thi... she is mad... e cant keep her on out laps forever" i mean how dare she say anything like that its not that i stay here forever it due to covid otherwise i come back for 10 days after 2-3 months.

Hi ZeniaUnfortunately, family will not agree with a lot of things , but you have to live your life for you not them. If you are happy where you are, don’t leave, be happy, I know it’s hard when family has opinions about your life, but it is your life, they will or should eventually come around, but you have to stand your ground🙏
