Where do you start with a counselor/therapist?

I am waiting for a call - I completed new patient paperwork in hopes of being able to talk to someone so that maybe one day I can be "happy". Now I am concerned that if I am accepted where do I start.

Hi bluemiss. I used to look to my therapists to “fix” me and make me happy. That’s not going to happen. A good therapist will help you to do the work that will ultimately result in your feeling much better about yourself and hopefully life in general. Think of them as guides. They will hold the flashlight as you make your way through the dark tunnel to the daylight beyond. Like any relationship it takes time to bond with a therapist. You’ll need patience. Don’t worry about where to start. The good ones will guide you through that too. The bottom line is that it’s great that you’re taking this step. It’s not easy to do. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with good therapists knowing that some don’t have that privilege. Let us know how it goes!
