What is the best magnesium type and dose for anxiety (social and communication). Any side effects? Thanks.
I already tried very small doses of Xanax (0.25) but it made me sleepy all day!

Hello, I take Doctors Best Chelated magnesium (the magnesium is gylcinate which I read is good for anxiety & mental health).
I find it helps relax me. I just take the dose advised on the bottle.
Cheaper magnesium tends to be oxide or citrate which can upset your stomach (great for if you have constipation though). I used to take oxide in a drink and would feel calmer almost instantly, but now changed to the tablet form as chelated is meant to mean it’s better absorbed?
You can also take magnesium salt baths (Epsom salt) as magnesium can be absorbed through the skin. I’ve only tried that a couple of times and don’t feel any different, so stopped doing that now.
Exactly what RunnerBean_494 just said. They know what they are talking about. I do however take the store brand stuff because I get it for free. I take a multivitamin with 90 mg magnesium in the morning and then another 400 mg at night. Doctor said I could take twice that much but it might give me diarrhea so I didn't go up. That other stuff is probably better though.
Does it make you sleepy or not able to focus somehow, when you take magnesium?
It just seems to help me chill so that I CAN go to sleep, it doesn't like knock me out or anything. But don't take those xanax unless you're really wigging out. The magnesium is nowhere near as potent as those xanax, totally different. I don't think you'll have any issues with the magnesium. Just don't think if one is good then two is better, or you'll be on the toilet. I won't take over 500 mg of the store brand stuff, a day, with no ill side effects. But once again that other stuff is better. It's no magic though, you still have to learn to chill on your own.
This is worth trying. I was skeptical but it does calm/anti stress.
Natural Vitality CALM Anti-Stress Magnesium Supplement Drink Mix Powder. It’s magnesium carbonate in the container, but when mixed with water it turns to magnesium citrate. Start out with small dose 1/4 tsp and work your way up to recommended dose.
Hey Santos,
When I was experiencing severe anxiety due to benzodiazepines withdrawal I found that taking Magnesium L-Threonate worked wonders for me. I tried a couple of different brands from different companies but the best was 'MagEnhance complete Magnesium complex' 90 capsules.
I had to get these shipped from the USA but they were the best I found.
I was taking 6 capsules per day but this is quite a high dose, and don't take Magnesium supplements on an empty stomach.
All the best
