I am bipolar and my wife wants a divorce. I have had suicidal thoughts for a few days and I am feeling very alone. Any recommendations for help?

I'm so sorry to hear that Keith. First, know you're not alone even if you feel like it. I would also follow Andy's advice and talk with someone or find professionals and get the help you need. Second, know that getting help to see about a mental problem isn't weakness. For a while I thought so too. I thought that I shouldn't need help controlling my emotions and helping me smile. But I realized that without the help of professionals and the support of my friends and family that I couldn't do life. Life is too hard and unpredictable as it is. When I got the help I needed and the right diagnosis (Bipolar II), its helped immensely me to allow me to deal with and control my emotions better. I hope this helps and I hope you try.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to try and get the help that I need so badly

My husband has bipolar and I can say from experience that it can be very difficult to live with

Are you type one or two? My husband has type one

Are you on medication?

Yes on medication. What is difference between 1 and 2?

The difference is the level of hypomania. Type 2's are more mild. My cousin is Type 1 and her moods drastically shift high and low and hits the full blown mania (overactivity and can be delirious) part. Meanwhile, I have my moods shift high and low over time and have hypomania (full of light heartedness but can also be filled with sadness).

Ask your wife why she wants a divorce and if there is any way you can work it out

Have you recently had a manic episode is that why she wants a divorce?
