Pretending

Anyone else find it difficult to keep the mask of normalcy up at work? Even the few who know it’s a mask never ask if I’m okay. As a rule, based on my job and taking care of my parents, I’m always fine because I can’t afford to be honest. Always have to hold everyone else up when I can’t even hold myself.

Thanks for your post. I am not sure who coined the phrase, "perfectly hidden depression" but it applies to me and possibly yourself.

I am trying to disclose a little bit more because it seems I expend valuable energy keeping up appearances. I have received some more support as a result. I am still not comfortable with 100% disclosure but working on it.

I understand completely. I have a day care center and every morning and evening, I have to greet the parents at the door with a cheerful smile. One of the parents told me that I look like "sunshine". Yeah right.🙄 Being with the kids all day I have to put a mask on too and appear happy and fun. They should only know how I REALLY feel.☹

I have that trouble too. One benefit if worling from home. No one can see me. And even if i go out, in sun glasses and a mask, it is harder for people to tell if i M crying
