Stopping self-harm

How do you stop hurting yourself when you're feeling anxious or depressed? i usually dig my nails into my skin. It feels good, but I know I need to stop. Any advice?

Some people use an elastic put around their wrist and snap it when they feel like cutting etc

Fidgits. Small balls with spikes and rubber balls to dig your nails into. Leave them in your room and grab them when you feel an urge. Also remmeber an urge is just an urge no more no less. When you separate yourself and give some distance betweeen yourself and the urge it gives you power. When you feel compulsed to self harm it is a way to self soothe and it just needs to be replace with non-maladaptive self soothing mechanisms. Try smelling lanendor, cozying up with a blanket or pet and say out loud I am self-soothing right now,

You are strong. You got this, and remember if you don't fail sometimes your not doing it right. Give yourself the opportunity to fail and change the behavior.
