So I am going back to work for the first time in about 2 months... I had to stay home because I started having panic attacks and could not desperate not being able to breathe with a mask from not being able to breathe when I had a pillow over my face and stuff like that. I am super anxious about going back.. I know everyone is going to ask how I am doing and where I have been. I just feel like I am not ready but I do not really have a choice at this point. Just need some good vibes or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Going back to work...
Try to pretend that the mask is a seal to help you hold it all together. Reply to others who ask how you are. Thank you for your concern, I’m focusing on my work right now and prefer not to discuss my situation.
Script a few very brief sentences about yourself. Don't give details. " I'm doing well. Can't believe how fast the time went by. So glad to be back. " etc etc
Then quickly flip the conversation... tell me how have you been, what's going on?
Most people love to talk about themselves.
I'm not sure what your job is. But maybe get to the bathroom and take it off? Step outside? Just get some air if you need it. Remind yourself why you have the mask on. Tell yourself this is different from your trauma. That you are safe.
I wish you luck on your return to work. Let us know how it goes
It’s not going very well so far
I'm sorry
Because of the masks or the conversations?
The masks... I’ve had 2 panic attacks already
I'm so sorry. It's totally understandable.
Would they allow you to use a face shield? Mayb get a md note?
Maybe try different types of masks. My brother bought this one for my mom. It looks like a scarf sewn in a circle. Kind of like a turtle neck shirt without the shirt part. She wears it around her neck and then just pulls it up over her nose and mouth. Great as it doesn’t bother her ears. Look around, I’m sure there’s other novel ideas out there.
Thinking of you and hoping all goes well.
Thank you !!
Well you have so far broke the ice with co-worker's when you first went back to work. That's a big step right there. Way to go Shimmer ! I would agree that they should have to accommodate you to be able to wear a shield if that seems better for you and get a note from your Dr like Dolphin has said. Good luck and keep us posted.
