I too was nervous about it. Im sure they expect us to feel uncomfortable. On my first visit she just asked me questions about myself. It wasnt weird. The time flew by.
I’m currently in therapy and have been for a while. Make sure you connect with your therapist and feel comfortable around them. I was so nervous on my 2 consultation days (this is actually my second fine in therapy). I was also super nervous about my medication consult. Tell yourself before you have the appt that you are going to be as open and honest as you can so you can get the help that you need and deserve. (This really helped me throughout my sessions, and has helped me achieve more from therapy)
My first consultation, I was overwhelmed with nervousness and nausea. Coming to terms with the fact I may have mental health issues was a very scary thought. I was immediately struck by the fact my therapist went out of her way to relieve the discomfort. She asked basic questions and encouraged conversation on the consultation. That experience motivated me to come back and start working on a strategy to make my life a better place. I have been in therapy for 15 years and not one session goes without learning new ways to improve myself.
I was so scared and nervous my first visit. When I walked in she had calming music playing in the waiting room so that help bring my anxiety down some. She really just asked questions about myself and what bought me in to see her. It was good first visit (I even cried lol).
Great job for taking that step for wanting to see someone. Its very difficult for lots of people for getting there. The first appointment isn't really that bad as you may think it is. I have been to so many therapist over the years and to be honest I'm glad for it. It has helped me and learned so much from going. Don't overthink and get yourself nervous, it will be just fine!
