Had a bad depression attack today. Haven't had one in a long while. Thought I was getting better. Just looking for some support, can't go to parents(my dad said he doesn't wan't to hear about my depression ever again when I told him I had it, and if I did bring it up that I would get a consequence) Mom's to afraid to go against my dad. So I don;t have anyone for support.

Sorry to hear about your relapse, last night I woke up at 2.30am with a full on anxiety attack, it stops me from sleeping and feels like a panic attack, when this happens to me it makes me feel really low, I understand what you mean about telling your loved ones about what your going through, I have the same problem with my wife, I feel she is fed up of my issues. Depression is a terrible thing my mother suffered a lifetime of it,

Maybe you should see your GP and try to talk to him, hope you feel better soon

Hi. Same here....I thought I could manage without meds. Silly me...

I can always phone my parents but can't easily go and see them as they don't live in this country. I'm on my own most of the time this week. Only one person from work messaged me. No I can see how many friends I've got at work. .:(

What about your friends ? Shame your dad doesn't know what depression means. It's such a " lonely illness" . Would be so much better to have our legs and arms broken... everyone would support.

Luckily you have this community.

Take care x

You're not alone here. This is a great place to be to find support and understanding. I struggle with anxiety and depression and know how isolating it feels unless someone else has suffered with it, they can't understand. Some people are more compassionate than others but the best support comes from those of us who have the illness.

Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.

I am so sorry to hear this. The older generation’s level of denial is amazing, isn’t it? I can tell you, if it helps you feel any better, that their inability to face your illness isn’t about you, it’s about them. Parents often blame themselves, especially if they don’t understand mental illness, & sometimes they just can’t face it. Can you get into a therapy group? You can get lots of support there. I highly recommend one that’s DBT based, but any group would be a help, as long as it’s the right fit for you

Not having your parents support must be tough, and glad you’re reaching out in other ways to find support. How can I help?

Hang in there Panda... as you can see, you’re not alone. I too suffer from depression and it’s been really tough on my family. So I’ve been looking for ways to express and process my feelings without overburdening them... journaling has been a good way for me to get things out of my head. Somehow reading what I write takes some of the intensity away from the emotions... however you choose to manage, give it your all and keep trying... you’re worth it 😊

Hi, sorry to hear you had a panic attack. It sounds like a small blip, nothing more. Unfortunately our body will results to old methods under intense periods of emotions or stress.

I am not sure where you are from, but could you look for some support telephone numbers for mental health in your area?

I also find meditation and mindfulness useful, you can look on the NHS website if in the UK or look on YouTube.

Hope this helps - you are not alone.
