I was prescribed Prozac last week and that was without blood tests, etc. Has anyone else had the feeling they were prescribed that with the feeling that you were given the "bums rush"? Has Prozac worked for you. I read that 1 in 10 are diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Seems high but, then, the demands of life may make that statistic probable. Thank you.

My son was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and anxiety and was prescribed Prozac. H took it for 6 weeks and it did not work for him. In fact, it made him very apathetic. I hear everyone reacts differently to these drugs and no one can predict whether or not they will work for you personally; they roll the dice and that is why people try multiple drugs hoping for something that works for them.

My son has seen 5 psychiatrists over 9 months and I find it quite astonishing that not one of them ordered general blood tests to determine if there were any hormonal issues present. He also has an auto immune disorder which is a comorbidity an no one seems to address it.

I think psychiatrists have a tough job trying to help their patients but I also think that we have not advanced in this branch of science very much.
