anyone else suffering with depression and on 10mg of citalopram, having the occasional really bad day, feeling low a lot of the time? ...and feel they just want to cry for no reason but physically can't? I find it helps me feel release all of the negative energy which annoys me more

What do you mean physically can't, like the tears won't come out?

Do you think the medication may have something to do with that

Hi

I suffer from GAD and also had depression. I could not cry when I was really depressed. I still find it hard to cry even though I am largely recovered now. I too find it a relief when I do cry. I do think it can be a feature of depression not being able to cry. I remember my sister was the same when she had Avery severe depression.

I too am on antidepressants a different one, Venlafaxine. I am on a moderately high dose. I am trying to remember if I stopped being able to cry after I went on them. I think I stopped before that but I also think there is a link because my antidepressants now stop me feeling worried at all. They do not stop me feeling happy or excited about things just seem to stop sadness or worry. It is good in many ways but also possibly stops me getting relief from tears.

I am better than I used to be and can now cry having been on them for over two years and am almost fully recovered.

I used to have counseling to see if that could help me release feelings and it helped a bit but not much really.

Hope you can get some relief.

Very best wishes.

Kim

thanks for sharing kim! I reduced my dose of citalopram at the beginning of the year to 10mg, which I think may be whats making me want to cry as the meds are not as strong. oh really yeah long term counselling been great for me and I've had some good stuff to take away:)

I find it really hard to cry which is worse as it means i get pent up emotion which then becomes anxiety..

I have found putting on a really sad movie or programme( even if it something u not interested in) and watch and then just go with it....

Or someone once told me to write down all my thoughts and all my rants and raving about family and friends.. just get it all out on paper doesnt have to b neat or make sense then burn it...

It releases the emotion and it really works....

Other then that im not good emotion wise it like im dead emotionally...

i think medication makes u devoid of feeling... i gave up with medication years ago as it was like being a zombie
