Opinions on anti depressants

I have anxiety and now horrible insomnia. I am very afraid to try antidepressants but I know it's time. I think the anxiety has caused the insomnia and it's time to take my life back. I'm looking at Lexapro and wanted to see if anyone takes it and how it's been. My sister takes Paxil and lives it, but the weight gain scares me. Any opinions on either? Thank you.

Has your doctor recommended Lexapro? Didn’t work for me. There are SO many options now tho. (And I’ve never taken Paxil bc I have friends who did & gained a lot of weight)

I took Paxil on and off for about 6 years for anxiety and panic disorder. I did not experience any weight gain. The only side effect for me was headaches if I missed a dose (and for this reason this medication was hard for me to get off, even gradually). It worked very well for me though. I have stopped taking it when I felt my anxiety attacks were under control and before getting pregnant since it is a class C.
