Best anti depressant for ocd

Hello: I suffer from ocd and obsessive thoughts in addition to anxiety and depression. Currently on 10 mg of Prozac. Was previously on lexapro and sertraline, all of which caused my obsessiveness to become worse. Next thought my dr has is to add an anti psychotic. I am petrified of this. My question is: has anyone had success with an anti psycotic in addition to an anti depressant? Will Prozac help with obsessive thinking or will I become manic like I did while on lexapro and sertraline not to mention the insomnia, etc. Thanks.

Hi I take venlafaxine anti depressant, and olanzapine. Which is anti psychotic. They work together quite well when they get the doses right. I feel they are quite helpful and the best combo I've ever had. You will have a certain adjustment period but it gets much better.

Thanks. How does one know when they are working? Any weight gain?

Is Venlafaxine a new anti depressant? Prozac helps my crazy, as I refer to it. Do you have that as a symptom of your depression? I've just been on Prozac forever and I'm so unpredictable.

prozac helps my crazy too. i can get so depressed and then irritable when i have to force myself to do everyday stuff. I'm so grateful for prozac.

Thanks for verifying my suspicions. I'm not alone.

Hi. I take prozac and Abilify. The Abilify helps the prozac work better. I have foot shaking and tremors as a side effect of the Abilify so now I'm on propranolol too.

What is propranolol?

in reply to

Beta blocker

It can treat high blood pressure, chest pain (angina), and uneven heartbeat (atrial fibrillation). It can also treat tremors and proliferating infantile hemangioma. In addition, it can prevent migraine headaches.

Thank you for the information

i take it to help stop my foot from jiggling so much. the tremor/shaking is a side effect of the Abilify.

I'm on 80mg of Prozac, Olanzapine anti-psychotic, Lamictal, and Clonazapam. And I'm still feeling all the symptoms you describe. I think it's all just become part of my personality.

Thank you for your reply. I am currently only taking Prozac but dr wants to add more meds. Do you ever have trouble sleeping or do these meds quiet your mind.

I take my Prozac in the morning. It helps me not snap people. The anti psychotic I take before bed helps my Schizophrenia and helps me sleep. The Clonazapam I take three times a day and it calms me down and helps with sleep too.

in reply toScaredhurt

Thank you. Do you suffer from tremors or shaking.

I've had tremor most of my life. It's something that runs in my family.

I think the Olanzapine may cause a little weight gain. Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever find a medication to help my OCD. I drive people crazy.
