I haven’t taken that particular medication.

That said, I encourage you to know it’s going to be awhile before your body adjusts.

If your symptoms feel, worse please call your doctor right away.

And know that 988 is a great number for the National crisis hotline.

You doing ok?

I’m doing my best , if I don’t think about my triggers then I’m fine . But since I overthink everything it makes it hard and brings about negative and false thoughts.

are you artistic in anyway or could you doodle how you’re feeling to get it out of your body and then shred up the paper so you could feel more … in control maybe? Just spitballing.

A little ,maybe I should try that with someone. I can’t do things alone right now or be in a quiet environment

that’s ok. Even a little piece of scrap paper and a magic marker can help you let it out safely. Then shred it. Then it’s out but maybe not consuming you as much. I can’t promise it will help but it may relieve the yucky energy in your body a little bit.

Hi and welcome. You will find a lot of wonderful people here. I took Prozac ( fluoxetine) for five years. It helped greatly with my panic, anxiety and depression. Unfortunately it pushed me into mania as I am Bipolar and was not on a mood stabilizer. It is definitely a good medication with no side effects that I can recall. As previously mentioned it can take 4-6 weeks to work but everyone is different. You should begin to see improvement within a few weeks. Good luck and hang in there. Come back to the forum or PM me if you need.

I think Prozac is one of the good ones. Side effects seem limited. Minus the time it takes to kick in it can be very effective. Never feel worry or shame for needing medication. I am in the US and mental health is just being considered real and important. My family has a pattern and as the youngest kid in my family I started therapy in college. Eventually I needed a psychiatrist for meds and Prozac was my first. Try to hang on for the impacts to come in. Wish you luck...!

Welcome to the group and hopefully, it will be of great benefit. I took fluoxetine and it worked satisfactorily for me. I can tell you that if you put a dose of enthusiasm and perseverance in life, you will get ahead. A bear hug.

I took Prozac (fluoxetine) years ago shortly after it came out(in the late 80's) and it worked great for me for about 10 years until it stopped working and I was switched to another med. I felt like a new person. I had no side effects that I recall.

Let me preface my response by emphasizing that everyone is different and everyone will have a unique experience while taking an antidepressant. I took fluoxetine for six months to help me manage my general anxiety disorder. My anxiety went through the roof as soon as Covid happened. It took me several weeks to adjust to fluoxetine, and the adjustment period wasn't very difficult. My anxiety level decreased, however, after a month or two I started feeling "foggy". I also gained 18 pounds during the time I took it. I was thinking about going off of it because I had Covid and it no longer made me anxious. I went on vacation for a week and forgot to bring it with me, so I decided to begin the process of going off of it (note- I had already tapered my dose to below the recommended amount). Going off of it was pure hell, and I wish that I had been told that it might be hard by professionals who recommended it. It has been 24 days since I stopped taking it, and I am just now starting to feel normal and not "foggy". Anyway, I took fluoxetine because it was my last option for controlling my anxiety. It didn't work well for me, but it may be the magic cure for you.

I forgot to add that fluoxetine didn't really help me with my overthinking. My hairdresser takes Wellbutrin and says it helped her not to obsess on food.

I took fluoxetine (Prozac) successfully for 10 years until it stopped working. I gradually tapered off the Prozac before starting on duloxetine. I was very worried about coming off the fluoxetine but surprisingly had no side effects. Good luck 🤞

Welcome to the group. You will find many supportive people here. Fluoxetine has been around for years and has helped many people. If you find it doesn’t work for, keep trying until you find the right medication.

Give it a go and know that it can take a week or two to take effect. The worst that can happen is you quit and try another med.

Fluoxetine worked great for me when I first started taking it, but my doctor kept pushing me to up the dosage, until I started having side effects and went to a different med. That being said, I don't think the problem was the fluoxetine, but my doctor; however, I highly recommend titrating up slowly. Be sure to give it 4-6 weeks for full effects, but you may start to see improvement in just a week of two. Don't let them up your dose above 20 mg until you see how it really works over time. Good luck!
