New to group.. a short story

Hi. I am new to this group. I have pretty severe anxiety from being trafficked when I was younger. I tried getting help but the biggest issue with organizations that want to help is that they want i you to live on their treatment property. Sadly I was only finally brave enough to try and get help 8 years after I escaped. I could not live in the facility since I had children to take care of and a job to go to in order to support them. The treatment centers I talked to didn’t want to give me the option of going to group therapy with other girls. Sadly. Anyway, eventually I did find a group that would allow me to go to mighty therapy sessions. It helped for a while.. and I thought they were actually going to help me... until one day I needed a place to live. Me and one other girl from the support group were trying to find an apartment together and we were told that if we needed any kind of financial help that all we had to do was ask. Well we did... and we asked for a down payment to get a place to live...and we were denied any kind of help. They said they didn’t have the funds. Which I was shocked since the owner of this non profit sure did live in a big giant very nice house. I just needed a place for me and my kids to live. Anyhow, I have given up on non profits for help because of this. I don’t know how to control my emotions and even though I have started medication and it has helped.. I have a horrible addiction to shopping. I get a high from it and I cannot seem to stop. I feel like it’s the only thing that makes me happy and then I just feel terrible or about it. I don’t know what to do ...

I'm so happy you are here! Do you qualify for Medicaid or have health insurance? If so I would check into individual therapy. If you have a PCP he/she will give you a referral. Compulsive shopping (Oniomania) is a behavioral addiction that involves compulsive buying as a way to feel good and avoid negative feelings, such as anxiety and depression. Many folks work through this by finding alternative healthy ways of getting the same euphoria derived from shopping. Mental health therapy can help you address the trauma you experienced. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Sending you good karma friend.
