I am currently on Prozac and having a very hard time sleeping. I have bipolar and ocd. Sent an email to my doctor and am waiting to hear her suggestions.
My friend is on sertraline and is having the exact same problem. She told me that her doctor suggested upping her sertraline from 50-75. Has anyone who has taken sertraline or Prozac found that upping the dose helps with sleep?
Maybe you have too much serotonin in your brain ? If you have it will prevent you from going manic bc mania is the result of too much dopamine which is the opposite of serotonin
Serotonin is a downer dopamine is excititory
Your family probably like that you aren't getting high / manic but maybe you have too much serotonin in your system I had mild serotonin syndrome and I couldn't sleep do you get any tremours?
I can't advice you.what to do regarding your medication but it does seem to me you should very gradually cut down.the prozac- what dose are you on?
Ok..I guess I was just looking at the downer aspect of seratonin.
I’ve tried both of those and many more. None of them helped me with sleep and have sleep issues in the side effects list. Especially the serotonin uptake inhibitors ones.
I just last week tried one that is supposed to help with sleep called trazodone. OMG it was horrendous. Didn’t help with sleep. But made me into a disoriented, zombie mess. Passed out the other day. Felt like I had flu and was drunk constantly. And could not get up in the morning. After 5 days I went back to gp and am now back on fluoxetine. Which helps with getting to work, after the initial week of feeling crap. But makes my sleep even worse and come with constant headaches and no energy to do anything after work, other than go home and stare at the tv!
Slow release melatonin such as circadian helps with getting back into a sleep routine, as does following a sleep app. But none of the antidepressants have helped, mostly made my sleep worse. The insomnia is what has pulled me back into antidepressants a few months ago. Was on my knees stressed and tired dragging myself to work and repeat. after having no antidepressants for 4-5 years. They can help with getting going and going to work. But for me at least, are no help with getting to sleep, staying asleep or getting up!
