I got some bad news today and I have started having pain in my left jaw. I am trying to stay calm but I feel pain in my left jaw and it comes and goes and do you think this could be heart related or stress? Any types or personal experiences will help just thinking and googling is making me feel worse.

I know when I’m stressed I clench my teeth together and usually don’t notice till my jaws start hurting 🤦🏻‍♀️ maybe pay attention and try to tell if you are clenching or grinding your teeth?

Hey there! I also have jaw pain as I clench my jaw all day when I'm stressed and also when I sleep, I had to get a mouth guard/retainer (which I only use at night). My jaw clicks (on both sides but is worse on my right) when I yawn or open my mouth wide and gets very sore when I leave it open for long periods of time, usually the only scenario this happens is when I'm at the dentist. I can't chew gum anymore and always have to try an be aware when I'm tensing up in my back/neck which feeds up into my jaw. Does this sound like your jaw pain? My pain is in the joint where my jawbone connects - near my ears and all around that area. The mouth guard only helps my teeth a little bit but doesn't completely stop my from clenching, I think it alleviates some of the stress on the teeth and joint and I know my dentist wishes I wore it all day but that's unrealistic. I just try to take deep breaths when I notice I'm tense but it's so hard to maintain and have had no lasting relief. Only seems to get better with less stress in my life, sometimes things like exercise or meditation (if I am even able to maintain those activities). Hopefully that helps you a little bit?

Yes it does sound like my jaw pain. I have been up under a lot of stress. The more stress I am under the more my body does weird stuff. Yes that you so much for sharing your experiences it has helped me.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear about the news.

I would still kind of be cautious, as I think I've heard it can be a symptom of cardiac event. Not to worry you😌just be mindful of any other symptoms.

Without being a doctor, I can't tell you for sure that it's not heart related. However, I can tell you that I have had jaw pain, shoulder pain, arm pain on both sides, chest pain, nausea, and all of the typical heart attack-like symptoms, and every time I can say 100% that it was anxiety. Prolonged stress and anxiety can absolutely cause you to tense your body in ways you're not even thinking about, and that can cause all sorts of muscular pains. Do you have a family history or a personal history of heart disease? Are you in relatively good health? Is there a strong reason to suspect you're having a heart issue? If not, then yes, it could very well be anxiety. But you can always get a doctor's opinion to be sure.

Yes I am in fairly good health, but I will probably check out with the doctor too. I am 37 fairly good health no family history of heart disease. Thank you for replying
