Many of us who suffer from childhood trauma and/or depression and/or anxiety are stuck, fixated on something that simply won't relinquish its grasp on us when hard issues arise in our daily lives.
What I do to move past it, in the short term, at least, is to go somewhere else. Get away from people, as people tend to present our triggers. I go into nature for at least an hour and really look at the beautiful surroundings that we are tasked with protecting. Animals and our planet need us. Mother nature, planet earth, the universe, give us a greater purpose and meaning. We, you and I, all of us who run deep, are needed in this natural space, the space outside our heads, the space away from those who hurt us.
You can use that fresh perspective, that readily-available adjustment, to your advantage. And when you return home, maybe the person or people will look less than they did in your head...more manageable, a little more distant and less a sharp thorn. Breathe fresh air and on the exhale, blow those dandelion seeds into the wind. They are so beautiful as they fly.
