I’ve spent ten years trying to change for better and find my purpose in life.

All this schooling didn’t get me a job. Time passed I didn’t find my passion or purpose.

I feel useless.

I’m 35. No career. I have a weekend job and I go to school in the week full time. Like hello, this degree is half way done and four years has passed.

If my grades are good enough to get into graduate school in two years from now, what will I be able to get into I wonder?

I feel like I’m living yet, for what. People are dying and wishing to live. They have kids and wives|husbands, friends, meaning, passions, hobbies, and careers.

I’m lost. Out here. Trying not to feel sorry for myself. Lol. Sorry. But like will I ever get it?.

Hi I am a lot older than you and never found a purpose in in life or a passion (at least not one I can turn into a job). I do however have passions in my free time which bring me happiness. As for purpose in life my friends and I used to make a joke about our ships coming in. We decided we all had leaky rowing boats which sank on rocks before they even set sail!

The lucky few do find this but most of us don't. The secret is to find things you enjoy doing and stick with them. Oh and I am childless and partnerless too, so I get what you mean. It is very easy when looking round you to assume that everyone else has careers and families when the reality is not actually true. Even if they do these things can become major stresses coz too as no one has a perfect life. x

Thanks for reply. Yes, it does seem like many people that are married tell me they are roommates lol.

Some friends and one sister tell me they are envious of me being single and wish they were. I guess the grass is always greener isn't it? x

I don’t think I even have a passion. I like doing a lot of things....sometimes. There is nothing I love so much that I want to do it eight hours a day, every day.

So, for work, I’ve been able to do things I’m naturally good at - things I like doing, but don’t necessarily love doing. I’m beginning to think that all the talk you hear about following your passion and having a career that you love is a bunch of propaganda. I think now that most people probably have a job that they love occasionally, hate occasionally, and most of the time, they like it OK but don’t love it.

That was hard for me to accept and understand when I was younger, and I spun my wheels a lot trying to find something I loved. I wish now that from the very beginning, instead of looking for something I loved, I had thought more about what I am good at. The secret is that if you’re good at something, you’re more likely to enjoy it.

Oh I could have written that Kat. I always worked in offices partially coz it was a sit down job (have a bad back), and because it was a 'clean' job and indoors. I was pretty good at it too which suited me. I quite liked most of my jobs but concentrated on earning good money so I could enjoy my leisure time and follow my own interests. x
