Emsam patch is part of a group of medications called Maois. Psych suggested it since It would be topical and not be ingested. How can I make that decision. I'm not a health worker or educated in that field. Drs. won't decide for the patient.
Would It interfere with Cancer of the Gastro tract? These medications can have significant interactions with other medications and certain types of food, but can be quite helpful in treating depression.
The anxiety disorder is getting worse. Now it seems depression can be an even larger problem. Do you have helpful info. for me/us in this group to decide about taking Adivan (I've ingested every med on the market in the past 4 yrs. 97% keep me feeling sick.) or going for the Emsam and risking "significant interactions?"
Either way is a risk of more sick feelings.

Every medication is going to have side effects or adverse reactions. If you have a primary care doctor sit down with them and talk to them. All doctors you see should all have communication with each other. A record of medication history helps too so they can know whether or not you can even have this type of medication.
Also medication is trial and error. I would just my doctor and pharmacist since they have a better knowledge with medications.

Dr. suggested I consider Adivan or the patch. All meds have side effects. I have to tune into the list and decide which would be easiest on my body. Guess I'll have to be a magician to try to read my body possible responses.
I dont use Ativan for my anxiety I’m on alprazolam for my anxiety and for my depression I take Zoloft and for my bipolar mood stabilizer I take Trileptal in the beginning I used to get nauseous but like I said I’m sensitive to meds especially if I have never taken them and I was never one to be on a daily regiment of medications till the last 2 1/2 years now I take a bunch of meds besides that including birth control, blood pressure,migraine meds and bunch of vitamins and supplements.
Now I get nauseous every so often but it’s either my anxiety or my migraine that causes it. See if you can be prescribed Zofran it’s an anti nausea and vomiting medication. I also too have that in case I need it.
My anxiety would be so bad that every morning I would be gagging and wrenching violently for a good 10-20mins before I would be able to start getting ready for work.
Doctors ask us because we know our bodies better then them and how we respond to meds.
What I suggest is try it, you won’t develop cancer that fast on trying it out. See how it makes you feel and definitely stay on top of always getting checked for any issues that may develop.
I have to do blood work every six months to make sure the mood stabilizer in my body isn’t at a toxicity level damaging my kidneys or liver.
A lot of research as well but don’t go crazy everyone responds different to medication.

In my case if it was me I would try the patch and see how it goes from there.
Propranalol saved me from Migraines. Took it for about 30 yrs then decided to slowly get off. Fantastic Surprise! No more migraines.
Now I wonder if that medication could help with brain issues that are lurking in that hunk of matter we call a brain.
Monoxidase inhibitors are tricky as you can't eat cheese and other foods as they react with the drug and could give side effects. I did not know the patch was an inhibitor - If your packed meals contain cheese and certain other ingredients they would not suit you so you are wise to avoid these. I will try and find a list of monoxidase inhibitors so you can check if these affect your meals.
