I have been struggling with my anxiety for over a year and have started to feel better but I have not traveled in this time except to local spots- In a month I need to go to Chicago and NY within ten days and every time I think about this trip I set off the anxiety alarm- I am traveling with my wife but I need to be strong but I am not sure i am ready for this- i do not want it to set me back in my recovery- Any one have any some suggestions on how to control myself before and during the trip. Deep down this I do not want to go but i know she will be upset

I feel for you. I will not travel. I hate flying and car trips are even worse. My family is going to see relatives but I will be the only one staying home alone. Since my car wreck when I was stuck in a fiery car I haven't been able to even drive to see my elderly mother one hour away in years. I'm embarrassed but I'd almost rather die than go on a long road trip. Sorry I don't have answers but I understand for sure.
I furiously do crossword puzzles! One after the other to keep my mind off of not being in control (as in you can't pull the plane over to the side of the road). Assuming you'll be on a plane that is. Your wife might even try to help you solve them so you could do them together. It's really nice that you're putting your discomfort aside so that you aren't disappointing your wife.
How about Xanax for travel if you aren't driving? That's what I do if I have to. You can do this! It will be worth it and then you can enjoy and be proud you did it.
Ok. Can you take Xanax? That always helps me get through it. Think of the fun you will have when you get there and don't think of the flight back. It will be so worth it on the end.
