can’t pull it together

I leave for my cruise on Sunday (two days). I’m so anxious and can’t picture myself getting through this. I know these negative thoughts don’t help. I saw my therapist today which helped for the time being. She was very reassuring. I do have all of the motion sickness medicines and remedies (Dramamine, patches, bands). I also have some Zofran for nausea. I am so exhausted from all this anxiety and I just want to dleeep. I’ve been struggling to eat and all I’ve had today is a muffin. My therapist suggested I try to take a nap and rest since I’m overly exhausted. But I have a birthday party for a colleague to go to in a few hours and I need to finish packing. I have no motivation to pack because I’m so anxious for this trip. A big part of my wants to just say I’m not going, but I would disappointment my boyfriend and his family and myself

Could you not go to the party? It may help to reprioritize.

Can you carry a few tranquilizers with you. Just knowing you have them can help.

I went on a cruise 6 months ago that I was anxious about. I ultimately enjoyed the cruise immensely and was glad I went. I brought my Xanax along but after the first day, did not use.

Was it rough? Where did you cruise from/to?

We cruise from Tampa to Bahamas over Christmas. The weather was cloudy and windy. I didn’t even notice it. It was not a huge ship even, held 2500 passengers. I brought medicine for sea sickness but did not use it.

I wanted to add that a good strategy is to keep busy on the cruise and form a routine. For example I would get up and go to the coffee shop first thing in the am. And I went to daily activities like trivia at the same time every day. Things like that.

I am longing for a cruise right now. Once you get there, sleep will be better than ever (the ocean is calming) and there will be plenty of food. My favorite part was the poor wifi, which forces you to be where you are. The motion sickness is lower because the boats are bigger and some parts move slightly more than others. I would love to be on a cruise right now, even if I was nauseated and could only lie by the pool and watch the ocean.

I’m very fearful about the food and getting sick from it

I have been on 3 cruises and I liked them all. The ships are so huge today that you really don't even feel the motion. I did get sick one time as I ate at a local restaurant in Nassau Bahamas and I recommend that you just eat on the ship or go to a well established restaurant.

I’m just really scared about how rough the waters are.

In my experience, my cruises did not even have any rough waters at all. How many days is your cruise?
