The works of Eckhart Tolle helped me a lot to dis-identify myself from the mind. I would suggest, read/hear the book "A new earth" and see how the mind operates. Mind always wants to be in the past or in the future. Never in the present moment, where life happens. I usually suggest people to listen to segments like "Voice in the head", "Carrying the past", "Duck with a human mind", "Is that so", "Can you hear the mountain stream", to get an idea of his teaching and then read/hear the whole book. His first book is also a great one
"Power of now". If you want to jump into that, I would suggest you stick to the first 3 chapters along with the introduction until you get a grasp of his teachings. For meditation, First thing I would suggest is, in the shower, observe how your mind is elsewhere. You may be in the shower physically but you are not experiencing the water, smell of the soap. Your mind is running a meeting in the office or re-enacting some old drama. The shower is just a mechanical act. You are absent. Recognize that and bring your attention to the water splashing on you and smell the soap, listen to the water flowing into the drain. Your mind will shut off. It cant do 2 things. Expand that to the whole day.
