Can a pet help with depression etc

I've heard a cat or dog eases stress and anxiety but I'm scared of both but if I did decide to get one it'll probably be a dog one that's not vicious and easy to train.

We are just in the process of adopting a rescue dog--he is such a sweetie and has had such trauma in this life! This will be our family's 3rd dog. We have had nearly ten cats, over the last 29 years, and have 3, as well, at the moment.

There are no greater peace rewards than having unconditional love from a pet--you learn so much from each other...I have a friend that will only take very aged animals--she wants to give them the last best years of their life, away from stress and pain. We just find animals show up on our doorstep b/c they don't seem to ever have parents (no id's/microchips), or friends simply can't keep all of the ones that they rescue!

Be certain to take your time, getting to know your new pet...like people, they, too, get their hopes dashed, when the other party decides it's not a good fit.

I could preach endlessly about rescuing an animal from a shelter/pound/neighbor or friend. In the end, get all of the advice that you wish to, before you make a final decision. Dogs and cats do need personal care and looking after, just like a child...but, yes, they are a wonderful source of peace and loyalty.

Good luck in your search, and I hope you do find the best spiritual match! :>)

If you're not too depressed to take good care of it, YES! I think certain insurance companies + Medicaid & Medicare will pay for them. They're called certified support animals. Look that term up. You might be able to find a source near you. Good luck.

For sure, sitting stroking your dog 🐕 is proven to be therapeutic for the dog 🙂and for you I have a patterdale terrier and she gets lots of strokes.

I have always had a dog, usually 2.

The feelings they bring are incredible.

But it is important to get the right breed that suits you. I have had labs mainly, but I live in the country and have room for them to be active. I currently have 2 Boxers (Tater and Mater) that are very active and can be trying at times.

I had a Jack Russell terrier in the past and I do not think they are suited to anyone dealing with stress and anxiety.

But overall, the right dog will bring you great joy, love, and peace.

Hi, I loved the reply from 6ixty1 I have had cats for 36 years they bring me peace and comfort, make me laugh. I would get a small dog if I could, that would be good to take us both for walks, but when I am in my bad depressions I do not get out of bed, except to feel my cats!!! All my cats have been strays and so interesting. So yes if you can take care of a pet get two, that way when you are away at work they will have each other for company.

I wish you well. Sending love and healing.......Sprinkle 1.......XXX
