I too was in denial, but now I am in the stage of acceptance and want to learn as much as I can on Depression & Anxiety so I can live my best self. I feel all individuals have their issues and this just happens to be mine. I want to learn as much as I can and joining this support group forum is one thing I did. I just joined. I also exercise and that helps me big time. I joined an exercise class and really like it.

Hi!

I think denial can effectively be used as a type of coping mechanism up to a point, and you have most likely reached that point! For me, acceptance of my depression has brought me a sense of freedom...it’s ok today! Once you reach a level of acceptance, you can begin learning how to cope more efficiently with it and what to do to help yourself. Personal experience in dealing with it is really the best teacher...trial and error! Just don’t stop fighting! Wishing you the best!!

Hi kenmeia04

This is a condition you can not run away from I should know because I tried for many years. Please see your doctor and your doctor will advise you what to do. Is it not uncommon to have this conditions you will be amazed when you start going to groups.

Take care and best of luck.

Society as a whole has a hard time with accepting mental illness. It is viewed as a character flaw of the person suffering. Like it is something the person can control, but refuses to help themselves. Why should you beat yourself up about it? You were only doing as you were taught from societal norms. While much progress has been made on mental illness sadly societal and culture norms still lag behind.
