I was doing great. I was working a decent job, and I was getting everything together. I could talk about my friend’s suicide without crying or being upset. His birthday was June 15th, and ever since then, I have been back to being down and no desire to do anything again. Does anyone do anything that helps them out of the funk? The only way I get happy is drinking or smoking, but I don’t want to do that, and go down this dark path.

Hi Jesse!

It must be terrible to hear about the death of our closest people, especially if the decision was theirs. I think we all stop then thinking what we could have done and why we hadn’t.

Please don’t turn to drinking or smoking, to harming yourself in any way. That unfortunately won’t ease the pain. I believe in talking it through, I believe that actually sharing the story can alivate the pain. I also think that helping others is very very great to the heart. I wish you best!

:( I'm so sorry about your friend. It's so normal for anxiety and depression to spike during anniversaries of losses. Just take it one day or hour or minute at a time. You will be okay. I've found that writing is super helpful for grief. I have a whole journal dedicated to thoughts to/about my friend who passed away 2 years ago. It gives me a place to direct all those thoughts.
