Hey guys, wanted to thank those for their quick advice on my first post. Went to the doctor today and while it was very emotionally draining, I’m feeling much more optimistic today. I’m ready to take this depression and anxiety head on. What sort of things do you guys do to get through the bad days? Or things you do for yourself knowing it helps with your depression/anxiety? My husband and kids deserve so much more than I have been putting forth and I’m ready to feel like myself again.

Some things I find that help besides medication is exercising and eating a very healthy diet. Basically no foods that is processed. It can help you through the really difficult times. The problem can be getting motivated to exercise or cook whole food. But the outcome can really make a difference. Good luck.

Hi pj1187, I'm on YouTube a lot. From watching funny videos to Meditation and Deep Breathing escapes. Some are 1--2 min long, others 5-10 min and up. You would be surprised in just a few minutes how it can calm down your stress level. When I'm not meditating, I am deep breathing through the stressors of the day. Doctors included. :) xx

Trying to plan little fun activities throughout the week to look forward to helps me. Meditation has had a huge impact on me. It only works if you really stick to it though. There are some great meditation apps out there.

I’m going to have to look into meditation.

Yoga and meditation.

No sugar or processed food.

A hug.

I'm so glad you're posting here and seem determined to get through it x

Saying positive things to myself, Not watching the news, Not talking to friends or family (they just want to fix you and they have no patience) keep a journal

I agree, my poor husband just wants to find a solution and has a hard time understanding.

no social media, talking with a trusted friend, EXERCISE, focusing on now and not the past/future, realiziing thoughts and feelings are not real!

being in nature for me is uplifting to the spirit. being near water is calming and relaxing and exercise really makes a difference. get the endorphin's flowing, proven to make you feel better. Even just walking. yoga has helped me tremendously and some meditation. happy to know you are feeling better.

Bike ride through nature, listening to music, learning something new (im learning italian), watching inspirational movies--movies about saints on youtube because Im catholic--lots of good movies from italian filmmakers about the saints. I took up a hobby--photography--watched an learned alot on youtube about this as well. I recommend doing a 365 project, watch Haley barthalemew and try to find or make bits of beauty all around you...Say "It's going to be a good day today" when your feet touch the ground in the morning, do 3 random acts of kindness throughout your day.....so many things that can elevate your mood and bring a sense of significance to your life if you make the effort. Good luck.

Something I've recently started doing on bad days when I don't want to do anything or even get out of bed is going for a drive with my husband. My husband will drive me up the PCH (we live in LA) and we blast music that I know the words to so we can sing along. Then we stop along the coast somewhere quiet where we can see and hear the ocean. We don't always talk much at first, but then the words start flowing and the I'm able to release some of those pent up emotions from depression and anxiety.
