Me again...

So I went to the dr about a week ago, I got some medication for my depression. I know it takes a while for the stuff to take effect but I just don’t feel like it’s gonna do anything. I mean I’m suffering from the side effects but that’s it and I’m impatient. I just don’t want to wait for the medication to kick in and I want to stop taking it but I know I need to give it time..

Nobody has any patience when they're depressed. A minute seems like a year! But we don't really have any choice if we want to get better. This stuff takes time, like it or not. It's the best they can do at this point.

Try to distract yourself by watching TV or a movie.

I try. I usually start drifting off and thinking of what I really want my life to look like so I don’t pay a lot of attention to the show.. 1 day at a time tho I guess

You'll get where you want to be eventually. Dwelling on all the things you can't do right now isn't going to help, though. Like you said - take little steps for now.

I went thru this myself. Try not to quit because things for us sufferes don't usually get better on their own. I've tried that and it was miserable.

I have no issue with trying to keep at it

the only problem so far is it keeps me up at night. I think over the last week I have slept a total of 4 hours. I’m exhausted and can’t function as well as normal.

If you've only had about 4 hours of sleep in the last week, I would put in a call to your doctor's office. Maybe they can prescribe something that will help you sleep while your body adjusts to the antidepressant.

You need to give it time. Depending on the meds it takes couple of weeks. Be patient and be gentle with yourself. It will kick in.

Not what you're looking for?
