Hi Folks,
I know a lot of us suffer from really intense morning anxiety. We wake up feeling completely overwhelmed with anxiety and then it takes several hours to normalize. I just wanted to pass along that my psychiatric nurse practitioner put me on gabapentin a few weeks ago and I cannot believe how much better I feel. I could never understand why I was so ridiculously anxious every morning no matter what I did- therapy, meds, all that. Sometimes there was a good reason for anxiety, but most of the time it was just an agonizingly annoying presence sitting on my chest and in my mind and heart every day. Gabapentin has turned this around for me, and I hope it can help others. It's typically an anti-seizure med, or for neuropathy pain. But somehow it calms the chain of command in my brain that leads to AM anxiety. So check it out. Also, I HIGHLY recommend going to a psychiatric nurse practitioner whenever possible. These folks are specifically trained to help people manage psychiatric medications. Add that to therapy and it was a great mix for me. I'm also taking cymbalta but I didn't have this huge improvement until we added gabapentin. My heart is with all of us who suffer psychiatric disorders. We didn't ask for them, and they suck. They really, really, really, suck!!!! But we're not alone and if you keep pressing your helpers (docs, therapists) there's hope we can each find the right stuff that helps us. Hugs everyone!
