When your Dad says you're awful....

I am 24, I am living at home with my parents because my visa expired and I am in the process of getting a new permanent visa to stay with my husband. I miss him horribly and every day my father tells me my husband will leave me, or that I am a waste of money because I dropped out of university in my third year after my fourth suicide attempt. He says I don't love him when I speak up for myself. He says I am lazy when I have crying fits and lock myself in the closet, he says I have no work ethic because my I have lost every job I have had from panic attacks. And it just makes me want to sleep, so I don't have to hear it anymore. I have tried to talk to him since I first felt depressed at the age of 11, but he always says it's something you 'just get over' :/ How do I maintain a good relationship with my father while not letting this get to me?

Actions speak louder than words. My cousin had a toxic parent and completely cut her out. Not that I'm recommending this, but sometimes the most important people in our lives are also the most toxic. Focus of the future and your husband. Don't listen to your father or anyone else that doesn't HELP aid your situation. If they are making it worse- avoid them when possible. I'm 25 and I've definitely been there with a parent who doesn't understand or WANT to understand. Just remember it's not the person- it's their actions. I hope you get better soon.
