I am wondering what type of pain medication can be safely taken when on daily propafenone and verapamil? I have arthritis and was told not to take Advil or Aleeve and recently told not even Tylenol?

What pain pill can I take?
The one thing I think you can’t take is NSAID’s (Non Steroidal anti inflammatories) or burden ibuprofen. I am just on paracetamol now but can take co-codamol if necessary
Tylenol is what Americans call paracetamol and about the only thing permitted if you have AF and or are taking anticoagulants. Any NSAIDs are strictly out of bounds due to causing AFand interacting with anticoagulation.
Based on what I’ve come to understand, the issue with pain relievers isn’t the interaction with antiarrythmic medicines such as propafenone. Rather it’s that NSAIDs have been identified as triggers for Afib. Additionally, some magnify the effect of anticoagulants. For these reasons, many on this site will warn strongly against the use of NSAIDS. And maybe your physician will as well. As far as I can tell, my occasional use of them does not cause Afib for me. There are many triggers and we’re all different. I also suffer from arthritis and sciatica and the occasional dose of celecoxib (Celebrex) is a godsend. I understand the risk and accept it for managing my QOL.Hope this helps.
