When to take an extra pill

hello everyone, hope you are all well. What’s you’re advice on when to take extra pill, my HR is 130 , my Apple Watch goes from HHR to AFIB in yellow writing and then back to HHR. I can’t work out what is going on. At what HR would you take an extra pill as 130 seems to low but maybe I’ve just got used to it. Appreciate some advice please 😊.

What pill are we talking about? Anti-arrythmic's like Flecainide are sometimes taken daily or as PIP to restore rhythm. Rate control drugs like bisoprolol are sometimes taken daily or added after an episode to control rate. In either case, you should have received some direction from your doctor. But conceptually, if you are in afib with a HR of 130, no, it's not too low to bring the rate down, but you need a plan based on your medical history and goals.

don't know about flecainide, but bisoprolol dosage seems low. My GP reckons 1.25 is only a placebo and doesn'twork in practice.

I seem settled on 1.25 but occasionally get HHR if I’ve eaten something bad but I never know what HR and how high to take it.

If you have developed a good relationship/had private consultations with your cardiologist, I would email his secretary.

I take 1.25mg bisoprolol at that rate or lower if I am doing anything important like looking after my grandson or doing some heavy gardening and the like.

After asking my cardiologist told me if I have a break through I can take up to 300mg in a 24 hr period and 5mg of Bis in 24 hrs as a Pill in the Pocket(PIP).

I was at 50 mg Flec 2x day and had breakthroughs so I am now on 75mg 2x day. I have only had 1 break through in many years so I took an extra dose of 75mg Flec and 2.5 mg Bis.

It's a hard 300mg Flec in a 24 hr period you have to deduct last doses from the 300mg Flec in that window and do the same going forward. As the Bis is to prevent serious side effects of Flecainide I took it 40 min before I took the Flec. That is me. A quick call to your DR. would be safest.

I would put it to your Dr, as a request. "I'm having break throughs can we increase my dose? Also I would like take F and B as a pill in the pocket. How much more can I take?"

As you have probably read AFib is progressive so get events down as low as possible. Life style changes may also help. No alcohol and get as skinny as you can.

Good luck. This board has been a life saver for me.

thank you, I do find it all so confusing. My arrhythmia nurse said to take an extra pill of both if needed but I’m always confused as to what HR you take them . 130 is uncomfortable but bearable so I usually take if it goes up to 140s .

You probably should talk to your Dr. and clarify.

When I used to get aFib my HR was in the 80s.

My goal is to stay out of Afib to prevent progression. So I will take a PIP if I go into AFib.

If you have permanent aFib

My EP told me to take Flecainide 100 mg morning &evening as a PIP if I needed. And that should not be more than 48 hrs. I am on bisoprolol 2,5 mg daily. This is what I am supposed to do. BUT, I agree with everyone else here, you should talk to your doctor about that, s/he would say something similar but still s/he is the only best person to know. I hope you get some relief pretty soon.

Hi

H/R at rest should be below 100.

Only CCB Calcium Channel Blocker took H/R down 105

Diltiazem 120mg AM

Bisoprolol 2.5 PM

A year later H/R Night 47 goes up to 69 until midday and I need it.

So disregarded the lower am H/R and kept taking the slow release pill.
