I used to take ibuprofen for my costochondritis but have been told I cannot take it with apixaban, so can I take codeine?

Can you take codeine with apixaban
I think the general answer is no. But i took codeine with Apixaban and my GP ok ed it. I used it as a soporific when I had bad coughs following a bad cold.I would wake in the night and take a spoonful of codeine cough mixture. I went back to sleep and got a few hours sleep after taking it.
G'day Big Bear,
I have used CoCodomol 30/500 ( prescription only ) for extensive osteoarthritic pain relief in my shoulders, and years earlier - for pain relief prior to knee replacement surgery. Its pretty powerful, gotta load of ooomph !
Co-codamol 30/500 is a mixture of 2 different painkillers – paracetamol and codeine.
I take this with Warfarin ... no sweat. I don't use these new anticoagulants like apixaban. Perhaps check this out with your Pharmacist.

I take Zapain which contains codeine and I am on Apixaban - I have never had a problem
I did read online about this a while back and I think it was said to be a much safer painkiller compared with the many aspirin type NSAIDs that many people not on DOACs take, but still wasn't fully without risk. It would be your GP who must decide. If the costochondritis pain is from muscle spasm, an occasional 5mg diazepam is safe and I find helpful for some pain. I have found no effect with "nerve pain" drugs such as amitriptyline and gabapentin.
Have you tried physio or a TENS machine? I have read that they can help.

Hi
I am the same as you. Ifuprofen? was my go to anti inflammatory med.
Yes you can take straight Codeine or Codeine and Paracetamol which assists Codeine to spread to the injured spot.
But watch out for constipation. 4 prunes daily should do it or take 1 Colofac 140mg in morning with a large glass of water 1 hour prior to breakfast.

I was discharged from hospital after recent surgery on 2.5mg of Apaxiban twice a day with 30mg codeine 4 times a day & I was ok other than it making me itch they changed it to rivaroxaban have now stopped the codeine but I’m still itching. I would guess it depends on the dose you are on . Hope that helps
Check with pharmacist but I have Co codamol for chronic back pain, take it when it's bad or when I know I'm going to be more active. I'm on Apixaban too.
No to ibuprofen
My Consultant told me when i started on Apixaban if i needed pain relief only to take Paracetomol and that i must not take Ibuprofen, if i needed stronger pain relief i could buy Paracetomol and Codeine over the counter, and if that wasnt strong enough then i should visit my GP for a stronger version which is only available on prescription as i understand Codeine can become addictive, he also stated i should not take Aspirin based products, just my experience hope it helps. Steve
Avoid NSAIDS like Ibuprofen but I take Paracetamol and Codeine as Cocodamol for OA and have done for years with no problem
You need to talk to your pharmacist abut what would be the best for you to take. I have taken codeine and co codamol for pain on prescription from GP.
I have to take medication for pain relief daily and have been taking Solpadol (30mg/500mg codeine and paracetamol) which was prescribed by my GP for several years. I am also on Rivaroxaban. I have had no prblems.
I was prescribed Zapain to take with Apixaban and told I should not have Ibuprofen. I can't take Zapain because Codine makes me feel very unwell indeed! So if something is bad enough (migraine usually) I take ibuprofen but eat something at the same time. It's the only thing that can help me with a migraine. A hospital pharmacist said this would be OK as long as I didn't take it frequently. 2 tabs usually knocks the terrible migraine pain down to tolerable so I don't need to take more and then switch to a paracetamol based medication.
I was prescribed co- codamol for pain. I’m on Apixaban
Yes .
as far as I know, absolutely fine - been advised to take codeine by my GP and arrhythmia nurse - can become addictive but seems to numb pain.
Hi there, I've been taking co-codamol ( Paracetamol 500mg and 30 mg of codeine phosphate) alongside Apixaban for years now, though I only take 1 or 2 tablets a day. 2 tablets taken together will make me physically sick, due to the codeine. Prescribed by my GP no problem. Paracetamol and Co-codamol are the only two painkillers you can take with an DOAC, as far as I know. Having said that I was told by my GP that Voltarol ( diclofenac) is Ok to use in moderation, as very little of the active ingredient gets into your bloodstream.
