My dad has been battling prostate cancer for 15+ years . He goes to University of Chicago. He is 74.
Early 2000’s- prostate removed - not clean margins. Did no further treatment
2004 - Cancer came back. Only seen on PSA test. Watched for years until PSA finally doubled.
2007-2008- went on Lupron. Undetectable for 10+ years
2020- 2021- went on Zytiga. It worked 15 months. Took break from treatment because it messed up his blood sugar really bad
2023- 6 treatments of Docetaxel PSA went down to 0.59. As soon as treatment stopped PSA rose quickly
2024- Scan showed 8 spots on bone. One large spot on back they did 5 radiation treatments
2024- Pluvicto had 2 infusions. PSA rising rapidly. Liver and Kidney values look good.
New treatment offered. More genetic testing. He had genetic testing years ago and it was negative. Then they want to try Xofigo or a different chemo.
My dad is bummed. He thinks his prostate cancer is turned aggressive and is losing hope. Anyone else out there had similar experience and can offer some hope that there is something that will still work. His PSA never rose this rapidly before. It’s currently at 42. 3 weeks ago it was 30.
