Any input on Abraxane chemo?

Got any experience with Abraxane chemo? It contains taxotere but I’d get weekly injections with lesser side effects instead of monthly injections of taxotere with stronger side effects. See below.

My April 7 PSA Diagnostic did not drop for the 3rd month in a row. I’ve been taking Abiraterone daily with hydrocodone (to lessen impacts on my diabetes blood sugars). Plus Lupron shots. I’m ADT-resistant, my MO says. I updated my bio with this latest PSA info.

My MO said on April 7 we’ll likely finish out Abiraterone ADT treatment next month in case it somehow works. If not, continue Lupron but take a “vacation” from Abiraterone and its side effects for about 3 months, and watch for a likely PSA rise. If so, go to chemo in about September using Abraxane and Carboplatin.

On Abiraterone, my side effects include swollen legs/feet, brain fog, fatigue, upper body mass loss, frequent urination every 2 hours (so no good sleep for months), hot flashes.

Any Abraxane experience info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you weren't taking enough prednisone with abiraterone.

Allen, are you saying not enough prednisone to better control Abiraterone side effects (more than hydrocortisone), or that prednisone somehow kills cancer cells (in addition to Abiraterone killing cancer cells).

In the doses given with abiraterone, the prednisone is there only to control side effects.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification.

Minor point of order: Abraxane contains paclitaxel, not taxotere. Chemically, the two are quite similar, but they are not the same thing.

Hope it works for you.
