I’ve been reading and learning a lot on here, so I guess I will give you my story. Diagnosed 9/2018 with PC, Gleason 10, mets to spine and ribs. PSA 14.93. Urologist started me on ADT right away. Firmagon for the first month followed by Trelstar 6 month shot.(because we were headed to Florida for the winter). Oncologist added Zytiga with Prednisone during the first month. PSA went to 4.2 after the first month, and now down to 1.4. My oncologist retired while we were down South, so went to a new guy at University of Iowa Hospital for another opinion. He said keep doing what you’re doing and see you in 6 weeks. I also started on Venlafaxine in in December to help with the hot flashes. 37.5mg at first, which helped a little, then bumped it to 75 mg. I still get em, but not as many, and not as bad. Maybe 50%. Still feeling pretty good! A little foggy, a little tired sometimes, but no pain to speak of. What do you think?

Welcome to the club that we didn't join willingly. You'll find much information here. You appear to be getting great care and, assuming no lymph node involvement, perhaps the only thing missing is something to counteract the effects of the ADT on bone health. I get an Eligard shot every 3 months, others use Lupron or Zometa. So every 6 months I get a Prolia shot to help with bone strength.

Tall_Allen has an excellent blog with much of the latest thinking. For example, you might check out:

Best of luck to you!

I’m taking Calcium and D3, but I think my urologist has something in mind when I go in next week. Thanks.

Yes, I too take plenty of calcium and Vit D. "Prosteon" is the form of mineral supplement recommended by my urologist. You can get this via mail order.

in reply to tallguy2

I think it lacks Vitamin K2 MK7.

Hi sounds like you're doing well and all the right things. Good medication plan getting out and enjoying your self and luckily very little pain.

I was diagnosed January 17 gleason 10 low psa stage 4 etc. Very little pain they put me on zoladex and later docetaxel. I was thinking well I'm getting the best SOC treatment I'll be fine. Then wham the disease progressed during chemotherapy tried enzalutamide worked for a month or two then wham again the psa started doubling every month. I write this message from a hospital bed thinking maybe I should have done a bit more earlier on. If I didn't get pain earlier on I've got plenty now!

I guess I'm saying just because you have no pain and few symptoms now don't forget what you've got lurking within you and what it is capable of .

I am thinking if I had gone more into throwing the kitchen sink at it in the early stages with the likes of re purposed drugs, supplements anything that might have been seen at sometime to have had a positive effect against cancer as long as it didn't interfere with your main prescribed drug would have worth a try. Maybe I might have got lucky maybe not who knows.

I do hope that things carry on well for you but tread carefully, they do say everyone is different I very much hope you are one of the lucky ones.

riichardd, Sorry to hear things are not going well for you. I know that with this devastating unpredictable disease, things could go south at any time without warning. That’s why forums like this are so important. It’s hard to know what supplements to take that won’t interfere with the drugs being taken now. I’m thinking most natural things shouldn’t be a problem. I know it’s aggressive, but I’m not going to give up without a fight. Best of luck to you, and I hope you can find something that works for the pain. Doing my research.

I carry a small portable battery operated fan and a large kerchief for the hot flashes, humidity seems to make mine worse. Good luck with the monster. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
