hi everyone after battling post natal depression, bowel disease and recently being diagnosed with an under active thyroid I’m finally on the medication I need and I’m a different person I feel so much happier less tired, sleeping better and most of all my mood has changed I’m less anxious and I feel like getting active I’ve started brisk walking every night I really enjoy it, but I would love to find people around me who also want to get fit I would love any advice or someone to chat to

Many thanks sally 😊

Welcome here Mimi299 . You’re not even a day old here on Health Unlocked, and as the baby of the family, very warm welcome to you. I hope your health improves rapidly. You have friends here, all of us, and I hope you do find from among us, some who live near you and can become your companions in fitness. Happy Easter!

A very warm welcome. I’m so glad you found us!

You’ll find loads of likeminded people here, sharing their stories about walking, so do keep posting about your own journey.

And so well done for your active walks! That’s a brilliant achievement, especially considering the hard times you have been having. I share your hypothyroid condition so I know a bit of how hard it can be.

On here, to help with motivation, we have monthly challenges, which are always pinned in our “pinned folder” at healthunlocked.com/active10...

Have you already downloaded the A10 App? It’s a great way to count your active 10 minutes of walking. You can read more about that and how it awards badges at healthunlocked.com/active10...

We are an online community of walkers, so do not have in person events. But if you are rather looking for in person walking buddies, there are groups out there who meet regular in person, including

1) the ramblers association

2) your local health centre often has information of local walking-for-fitness groups. (Like NHS OneYou groups or Nordic walking groups, etc)

3) Facebook has probably plenty of groups in everyone’s region. I actually do not like Facebook, but it’s a good way to find likeminded people in your region. Just head to the group tab in Facebook and search for your nearest town, city or place and see if any local walking groups come up.

4) Get chatty whilst walking. The more you walk, the more you will encounter others who will as well.

Well done for finding us! Let’s keep walking!

Happy Easter Holidays!

I've actually found a couple of walking buddies via nebenan.de . Nextdoor.com is the more international version of it (well, it's at least in the U.S.). With both platforms, you have to verify your address by receiving a postcard to ensure that only real neighbors are on there.

Wellcome happy Easter 🐣. I’m glad you’re on the right medication and you’ll start to feel like a new you. Enjoy your walking even if you do some challenges steps etc or join a walking group in your area. I used to go walking on my own quite a bit but since Mr D and I retired I have him for company. Enjoy your Easter.x
